Is this the weakest Natsume season so far?

I just haven't found it nearly as comfy to watch as previous seasons of this show and I barely look forward to it - I watch it more out of a 'brand loyalty' just hoping it'll catch some of that enjoyment the earlier seasons did for me.

Maybe. But even if it is, being the "weakest" Natsume season isn't saying too much since all the seasons are really good. Personally I wouldn't say it's better or worse than any of the other sequel seasons. It's pretty consistent imo.

Also I thought last week's episode was one of the best of the entire series.

In the manga it describes his eyes several times as being that of a fox, implying that somewhere in his family a yokai was involved. Would explain why him and Reiko are exceptionally powerful spiritually. Some people have speculated the Madara is involved, but that could be pure fanfiction.

Sorry anon, I started rewatching all of it when the first episode aired. Now I'm finally up to speed. Natsume was not as good as I remembered, but still quite good. Season 4's ending managed to get a tear out of me and pic related is still my favorite episode.

Also, Go has been weird in how it's animated, but all of the episodes have been nice especially the loli and Taki ones.

I wonder how the author will handle the story about Reiko and Natsume's grandpa. From what we know, that story is almost guaranteed to be a tragedy, which doesn't quite fit the overall tone of bittersweet.
