With love, a good budget, a good cast and a good director, I think most things could work.
Unfortunately Hollywood thinks a good budget can solve everything.

Netflix adaptation of Welcome to the NHK (the manga) has the potential to be wildly successful in the west.

Shows like Bojack Horseman show that westerners are really into depressing grim stories.

It would need a few tweaks for a western audience, but I think its got a pretty good base to be adapted

Can anyone give a rundown on the GITS saga? I'll watch the first movie, then what? There are like 4 movies and two tv shows. Are the shows great or should I just stick to the movies? I don't really feel like watching a series.

The problem with Black Lagoon is that you'd need to cast someone that could pull off Revy which would be impossible.

Cowboy Bebop is my go to in this situation but it would be difficult to pick what episodes to adapt. I'm surprised Jojo hasn't been picked to be adapted but I think you then run into the same problem of Revy's casting but this time with DIO.

It's the same basic theme but with focus on different aspects.

If you're only watching one of them, I'd recommend the SAC movie, it gives a summary of the most important story if you're not reading the manga.

But because all movies, series and the manga overlaps very nicely I would really just say watch all of them by release date.

Don't know about"top notch" she's OK at best. The director's claim to fame was a shitty Snow White movie and Avi Arad is involved yet another red flag. There is also the fact that she looks nothing like The Major , cg looks awful, the city in the bottom pic looks more realistic and "lived in" than the clearly green screened BG in the top pic.

The cast and crew behind the Alita movie inspires more confidence than this shit. Shame they couldn't get the calibur of Talent that the new Blade Runner movie has behind it. At this point I would even take the Wachowski's over this director. They would at least get the look right, though they'd probably cast Bae Doona as The Major

Anything made by a westaboo like Gunsmith Cats. Historical stuff like Vagabond and Vinland Saga would also be easy. I actually think shorter drama series like Punpun would be easy as well. The less anime clichés and stupid power level stuff the easier it is.

Berserk is an obvious candidate as dark medieval fantasy is pretty safe ground as far as genre's go, it wouldn't need to be altered radically in order to be marketable
I don't even think it would necessarily be that difficult apart from minor things like making the Dragonslayer not look goofy as fuck when held by a real human being, the main problem would come in attaching people who care enough about the source material to preserve it while simultaneously knowing what/how to cut it for the translation onto the big screen and how to assuage general Japanese storytelling conventions into something a bit smoother, and to keep it a hard R, or at least something on the level of a Paul Verhoeven movie like Robocop. A PG-13 Berserk would be dead in the water from minute one, although I'm not familiar enough with film rating to know if the Casca rape scene could potentially be enough to push it into an NC-17

The thing about the story and characters of Dark Souls is that they're only noteworthy in the context of a game in which you're slowly and deliberately going through dilapidated ruins and locations where you only occasionally run into something that doesn't immediately take a swing at you. By trying to make a traditional story centered in that world, and then just delivering that story to you directly instead of allowing you to infer it by item descriptions or locational design, you lose all the charm and value and just end up with a bland dark fantasy story

I actually loved the death note films - both the dub and sub. Definitely had a better ending than the anime/manga, fuck Near. And yes I know I'm gonna get flamed for this

Desert Punk. It's great but there isn't any subtelty that could be lost in the adaptation. It's just pure action and there isn't much gore so itd just be PG-13.

The early bits with Dio and Jonathan are enjoyable, but the bombastic nature of the presentation is what makes it work, like when Dio knees Danny. By making that into live action, you lose that, and all you're left with is a fairly thin story where a guy tries to poison his father, gets found out, then turns into a vampire
This is ignoring the fact that roughly 40-50% of Phantom Blood is Jonathan and Zeppeli fighting zombies with Hamon, which just isn't interesting and would suffer even more. The fight with Dio is fun enough but it and the encounter on the ship that run out Phantom Blood wouldn't be sufficient to round it out, it just doesn't make for a cohesive package. I think you could do Steel Ball Run and that would go better, because it's a fundamentally stronger story with more detailed characters and interesting situations that lend themselves to character performances that you would actually want to see as opposed to say the constant stream of Stand Battles in Part 3
