I don't think Pokémon is any good considering all Pokémon names and their moves are made-up pun names. Only few of those games have Kanji also, and because of most of us were/are used to play those games (i.e. quickly advancing through the game), it'd end up being too slow and frustrating to read all the dumb shits trainers have to say before you get to battle them.

If you're just mad about all the irregular Kanji readings your first couple of thousand words, you should realize that things get more regular and predictable the more your vocabulary grows. A good chunk of the language consists of straightforward onyomi+onyomi content words that double as verbs if you stick on suru.

Maybe. I speak Portuguese natively and, while Spanish goes hand in hand with it, both French and Italian seem equally hard to process for a random Brazilian. You get the general idea, but not the grammar and some vocabulary.

It's been about a year and a half since I got cereal, with some pauses due to personal stuff and uni work.

Reading something that is a bit more 'poetic' than normal writing and I can't figure out the nuance of this:
