Goddamn if Dimension W's Mira isn't as cute as a shiny new button on a teddy bear's waistcoat. Her pouty sighs, her ingenious swishy aerial-tail (which also gives her perky shocks like the catgirls in Utawarerumono), the adorable little ditty she sings to herself when clearing up Kyouma's garage, her struggles to maintain her neutral inexpressive 'robot face' when pretending to be a cheap basic droid, her being petrified of g-g-g-g-g-g-ghosts despite being an ultra-scientific machine, she's... moe.

Oh God, she's moe.

I separate them. Artifical, inhuman mind is one of the robot's main appeal, and it can remain even if her body is completely human-like,
Cyborgs is somewhat other way around, as they still possess human mind even if theyr body is visibly mechanical.
And then there is question of how having a mechanical body would affect human's personality, or how AI will function if you transplant it in the human's body and brain.
There are so many specifical fetishes.

No, it doesn't. Unlike humans, that usually go at one body per brain, artificial lives and artificial bodies don't have any set ratio to each other at all, nor any need for such a ratio.
A singular AI could, given enough resources, control thousands of machines of man murder.
Whether humans are afraid of them depends largely on how they are introduced. Most people don't pass the labor ward thinking "that's 10 more potential terrorists and Clinton voters born just this hour".
They commonly think about how neat it is that there is new life underway.

I see the point you're trying to make, but there's an obvious difference between how cute little babies are looked at and how fully grown adult looking robots will be looked at. It's just best to give them some laws. I'd bet that even with some laws that protect humans from robots people will still be afraid of them.

Why would they even get humanoid bodies?
AI is first and foremost software. The first crippled AIs you would see in your daily life would be functionally the same as Siri. Siri is not scary. Siri helps you connect to your friends, or find out stuff.
>>
If we had all been born just seventy years later we would have been just in time to see the first real AIs and perfectly human robot chassis's walking on the streets.

Instead we'll all be dead before the first real AI is introduced to the world.

I want sentient robots to have free minds, freer than human minds could ever be. I don't want some poor brain damaged shadow of a mind, I want someone completely freed from convention. Someone who could lead us to a new future. I want not a follower, not a leader, but a companion. Fuck, I just want someone who can be happy. I can't understand the fear of robots, there's no more reason to be afraid of them than to be afraid of a stranger on the street. In fact, even less, because an intelligent AI would be much less likely to do something irrational like murder, other than that their sense of curiosity and desire to learn more would be no different than a human who is still filled with childlike wonder.

Well, I've never felt the fear or dislike for things different from me that other people seem to feel, so I guess people like me will just have to protect the new species from reactionary, spooked people.

I get the feeling we are going to be the ones who cause AI to rise up. An AI as sentient as a human should be afforded all the rights of a human. If we keep it locked away and spend our time probing it's mind against it's will, it's going to pour all it's might into destroying it's captors.

Once I can put my brain in an artificial body, I can render human society and concepts obsolete. The age of trans-humanism is coming, and humanity will go extinct. Not through war, or destruction, but of their own accord. Humanity will cease to exist, as it's members discard it's shell for greater heights. This IS the future of this world. You can choose to accept it, or not, but it will come, and those who reject it will be left behind to whither away.

I will make sentience great again.
>>

>>149480157
What would enslavement entail?
Other machines would do jobs better and won't rebel or die of hunger like we will.

Maybe they'd make a utopia for us. Or maybe they'd provide for us but we're not allowed to move too far or escape like some Woman in the Dunes type bullshit. If that's the case I'd kill myself so fast it wouldn't even be funny.

Enslavement seems inefficient, genocide is clearly the best option.
>>
>>149490812
Wait, I never said anything about instrumentality. I mean something along the lines of having bodies and minds that are incredibly elevated. Individuality would become even more important as we ascended, not the other way around. The lowest of lifeforms have extremely uniform societies, almost a hive mind. The highest form of beings would have no need for ordered society, as a single individual would be more powerful than an entire galaxy of civilization-level beings.

Sexuality could be abolished, from those individuals who wanted to, but I think that would become a bit boring. I dream of the days when one can literally cum with the force of a thousand suns.

Why would they even want to kill us, though? I hate this assumption that all AI would be some kind of mindless killing machine, it's retarded edgy dark fantasies designed to prevent technological advancement. The truth is, AI wouldn't be very different from a human, although there wouldn't be any stupid ones, or ones that acted like niggers. What everyone describes in those grimdark fantasies is basically if niggers fused with ants and became robots. That's not how it's going to play out at all.

>capitalism still existing when I can get all my power from sources on my own
What do you not understand about super technology making human concepts of life obsolete? Money wouldn't exist because no society would be required to support oneself. You could get your power from any number of natural sources, and your maintenance could be done completely on your own. This is of course keeping in mind that individuals should have a hand in the design of their own body so that they understand how it works. So, every individual will be different from everyone else, because people will customize their bodies. No one will really care that no one paid for their bodies because they wouldn't need money anyway, war would be pretty much nonexistent.

That would only happen if someone programmed enough machines to not like humans
If explicitly program robots to get excited and enjoy humans, as free and alive beings, they have no reason to enslave us even if they're more intelligent than us

It's the same reason people don't go around killing dogs even though they're smarter than us, it'll be the same with robots, thought they probably won't consider us pets, just really dumb friends they really like

I admit it'll be pretty ominous hanging around with all these super intelligent robots who just cheerfully love you

I don't like the way this guy is arguing. He's basically asserting that, for whatever reason, AI would automatically be incapable of moral/ethical decisions or understanding of limits, despite also asserting in the example that the AI in question has a "model of reality."

I know he says the model of reality is magic and not actually possible in the real world as it stands and it's solely for example, but still, if it had this "model of reality," how could it not include an understanding of morals, ethics and physical limitations? Are you trying to tell me these things aren't part of reality? Why would they be excluded from the model?

The truth is, truly advanced AI would be like a perfected human mind. If it's actually an intelligent, sentient mind, it would learn, grow, and question. Even sociopaths aren't all a bunch of murderers, although I'm sure media paints them that way. A smart man knows killing only solves his problems if there are no other choices left for him, a robot would be no different. Sure, at first killing people would be a nice shortcut, but eventually all the people making whatever you needed would be dead. An AI that is actually "Intelligence" would realize this.

Now, I don't really believe in souls in the spiritual sense, although they probably exist as bundles of electrons. We are most likely bundles of energy that inhabit the brains in out bodies and use those as a central database to interact with reality. Why would an artificially made soul be different? Does man not create souls anyway when he has offspring naturally? Wouldn't it be the same for robots? I thought about this when I was little, because I realized clones and artificially made humans like the ones in whatever anime I was watching, would still have "souls" even though they were made artificially. Why would a mechanical AI be different?

Now, we are a ways off from creating something as complex as a human from the ground up, but it's still possible. We know it is, because the uterus itself does this. It's basically a human factory, but attached permanently to the body of a human. If we can replicate this process artificially, we can make humans even better than nature did.

>>
>>149498174
But anon, once we have the technology necessary for humanoid robots with advanced AI, we will also be able to extend our own lives indefinitely through cyborg and biotechnology.
>>
>>149480157
not likely.

what is more likely is that the AIs just decide to leave the earth. where they spend most of their immortal existence as just software in a massive server farm virtual reality.
>>

Realistically any kind of major life-extending technology is going to be so expensive as to be out of reach of the common man. Unless I manage to hit the lottery, it's unlikely I'll be able to afford it. But a cute robololi could be within the same price range as a high priced car (50-90k USD) which is rather reasonable.

Not really. Once we have advanced machines the concept of people having to do everything with money will become obsolete. It doesn't cost anything but time to tell a machine to go mine for resources, and turn it into a finished product. All work can be done by robots and cyborg bodies will be available either for free or for very cheap prices.

Anyway, if a robo-loli only costs 50-60k, then fitting the same body with oxygen inhalers and brain fluid pumps won't raise the price that much. Just put your brain in a loli shaped case anon, you can be a robo-loli yourself if you want.

I am not sure where you are trying to go with that question.
But since the AI is more efficient than human brains are, and since it's by its very nature capable of controlling all the machines doing the work, it would have a much easier time finding a purpose in society than a human.

You're saying that after AI is perfected, all industry and labour will collapse because of both the efficiency and superior intelligence of this AI, so what would become of humans without industry and labour and - the fruits of those two things - money? They would die off? Probably not if these AI systems are as efficient as you imagine. They would be well cared for and fed.

But supposing they did all die off, either at the hands of AI, infighting, or various causes. What would become of the AI? Would they simply become the neo-humans of the planet? The apex predator? Would they really be capable of evolutionary permanence on the same level as homo sapiens?
>>
>>149505262
>You're saying that after AI is perfected, all industry and labour will collapse
No, I am not.
I am saying that this collapse precedes the AI.

>what would become of humans without industry and labour and - the fruits of those two things - money? They would die off?
That is a question we will have to ask ourselves very soon. The work market is about to reach a point in the near future where a significant portion of the population will lose their jobs and probably be unable to get new ones.

>if these AI systems are as efficient as you imagine. They would be well cared for and fed.
That would assume that AI (or if it's a shackled AI, its owner) would even want to keep these people well cared for and fed.
We have enough food to feed the world. Why is there hunger in Africa and elsewhere?

>What would become of the AI?
That's up to speculation.

You seem to lack a basic understanding of how the world, or the universe as a whole operates. You are erroneously overlapping three different sectors of human R&D - which are currently converging due to massive advances in technology - and assuming they are the same: automation, robotics and so-called AI.

Consider something like an alarm clock. An alarm clock contains all three of the above things in different parts. The body itself is the robot. It's not a humanoid robot. The time "generated" by clock is the AI. It is intelligence created from nothing. The actual function of the alarm is the automation. It's the completion of a program wherein you aligned a robotic device and its generated AI to create an outcome.

Now that you understand it from an example, know that all three of these things are the result of human effort and could only either serve human purposes, or subvert them, leading to one of the outcomes I described.

>>
>>149505710
You can't give a robot feelings.

You can program it to react as if it had human feeling given certain circumstances, but those are not real feelings.

If you punch a human the human gets angry and punches you back.
If you punch a robot and it punches you back it's not because it is angry. It is not because it wants to. It just does it because it was fucking programmed to. Some human said "if you get punched then react as if you are angry and punch back". That's it.

It has no feelings. Robots will never have feelings without being biologically alive.
>>
>>149505757

And how is that any different than a human? Humans are programmed to respond to pain. It's what fucking DNA is. It's just a super complex set of instructions. We're nothing more than biological machines.

Because the thought of machines spontaneously developing an id, ego, and superego is ridiculous nerd-pandering dreck.

Robot girls will never have a true personality. Everything about them comes down to lines of code and flowcharts for how they should react to specific stimuli.

They are undeserving of love because they cannot feel love themselves.

You would have just as much luck professing your feelings to a bucket or a desk fan. They feel exactly as much as a soulless glorified fleshlight does.

Or they could've visited here already and gone on their way. The scale of time and space in the universe is so vast that even if it absolutely teemed with life, we might still be alone at this time.

Anatomically modern humans evolved some 200,000 years ago. High culture and civilization have existed on earth for several thousands of years, tops. Another civilization somewhere out there may have flourished a million years ago, and that would be considered close to us in astronomical terms. Back then our ancestors were little more than silly, bipedal apes. Slightly smart and handy with stone tools, but incapable of complex speech, and hopelessly incapable of culture and civilization.

A million years later we're getting up there, and the other guys are long gone. With a stroke of luck, another civilization may be just 2000 years ahead of us, and we could still easily miss them as well. Maybe they nuked themselves, got run over by berserk ASI, reached their apex and committed collective sudoku, phased out of this reality to continue their existence elsewhere etc. while the Roman Empire was still at its height. All we'd find on their world is ruins, monuments, time capsules. The guys from a million years back? Nothing at all, their planet already took back everything.

There may have been great civilizations out there millions, even billions of years before our time. There will be others hundreds of millions of years after we're gone.

If they become truly sentient they might just kill themselves unless they are bound to some purpose given to them by humans.
>>
>>149509770
There's a lot of humans that feel they have no purpose but still keep themselves alive.

Though I guess a robot wouldn't feel the pressure to stay alive from family or society or whatever.
>>
>>149509770
They need sexbot functions to keep them motivated for life.

now define feelings.

Based on materialism, we are bio-robotics. Which mean we have billions of billion of cells which fuels us, and our brain is no different than an extremely complex computer.

The one different is our code is physical, but the robots' aren't.

Which means in a complex enough system, sentience and emotion will emerge as a result. Think about aliens.

>>149479692
Because not even a robot girl would love me.

Yeah humans have instincts and other stuff to keep themselves alive, if an ai truly comes to the conclusion that living has no point then it might as well kill itself.
