Think of what could've been:

You grow up in the slums with your tomboy childhood friend. You make a promise with her to become a Shinigami and make it big. On top of that, you become a lieutenant for her foster brother and strive to become as strong as him, perhaps out of a subconscious desire to prove yourself to your childhood friend.

THEN your childhood friend goes to the Human World and disappears for several months. You accompany her brother to the Human World and see this orange-haired delinquent punk with her. What do you do? Chop up that punk's ass and give her the sword equivalent of a backhand to let her know she fucked up. Not only did she break the law, she's (seemingly) better friends with some orange-haired faggot who's not even a Shinigami.

You take her back and throw her in jail. She looks sad and you begin to feel bad about treating her like that. Then you hear she's going to get executed and your heart freezes. Her brother won't help her for whatever reason and you decide that you HAVE to save her no matter what it takes. To that end you begin to complete your Bankai, which you have been working on in secret for years, to get past the captains and vice captains and everyone else. The orange-haired faggot arrives and you're mad at him, but he bests you, and you're forced to admit that he has a better shot at saving the childhood friend you put in jail yourself, and you beg him on your knees to save her. He says yes.

I'm not even really a Bleach fan. I just watch these threads as an outsider. My first threads were the finale countdown threads in late August. Is it bad to say that a part of me is honestly disappointed that this fandom is so obsess with shipping? I always had this idea that Bleach fans were chill, cool people. Naruto is the only big three manga I read, and for so many years everyone always said Bleach blew Naruto out of the water and I guess over time I started believing it. Then I finally witnessed the actual state of the manga and the fandom for myself, and I kind of wish I could go back to feeling like Bleach seemed like a "cool" series on the outside.
