So he is completely correct. The LN came year after Madoka ended. Which is pretty close for it to be considered a ripoff.

People are always like

But after madoka there were a bunch of series about a group of girls having a real bad time after being thrown into a particular "game" from which they can't simply walk off, with no villains but themselves or the system. Off the top of my head I can think of Yuuki Yuuna and the first Wixoss, and this, since the novel did come out a year after Madoka.
Even if Madoka didn't invent that particular premise, there's no way it didn't influence the creation of the ones that came after.

Saying Madoka had absolutely nothing to do with this show is just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. Or that's what I think.
