Even at the height of his own use of it, Jotaro could use it for less than half the time DIO could. In Stone Ocean, Star Platinum's endurance had gone from A to E, that wouldn't have happened for no reason.

How is that? He has no memories of his past life, the only things that carried over are his 'consciousness' and a few character traits ((not even all of them, judging by the fact that he doesn't seem to still have the urge to kill women, nor is he overtly interested in their hands, which are two huge parts of his character)), and has basically confirmed that he'll stay in limbo until his spirit is eventually destroyed when he loses the will to protect himself.

It feels like ghost Kira is a little different that Reimi, who had a real purpose in not passing on like she should have, Kira, and I imagine most of the other ghosts we see in DMQ are more aimless, it could be that for 'evil' people, that's the punishment, they have their memories taken away and are forced to just live on in the world until their spirit is destroyed.

As it is, Kira doesn't seem to have anything that he 'needs' to do, he just can't move on, so he's trying to find some kind of purpose to while away his time.

Losing his memories in order to 'give him a new start' seems a bit cheap, from a karmic standpoint at least, if that were the case, even if he did something to 'redeem' his past actions, he wouldn't even know that he did, and wouldn't have to change himself or grow as a person.

I don't really know why this limbo thing would be a punishment to 'evil' people, but without memories, I don't think any kind of action they take as ghosts has any real meaning for their 'souls', since as I said, they're basically different identities now.

Evil Kira as we knew him is dead and gone, no heaven or rest for him. It's a pretty brutal punishment, he was arguably erased from existence. No-one could say he got off lightly by any means, unless they're really into him being sadistically tortured or something.

But new Kira still has his personality and his soul, just without the memories and baggage that goes with it. It seems cruel that this Kira is the one to be 'punished' by an aimless existence that'll end in obliteration, given he doesn't even know what he's being punished for, or that he's being punished at all.

I dunno, the whole symbolic clean slate trope that comes with a bad person losing their memories (and with them, their motives for being bad) just seems too obvious here. I don't think he needs to redeem himself by doing nice things, but I could see it as being some sort of setup to let him craft a new identity and come to terms with stuff.

There's nothing to suggest DIO didn't get an afterlife. And the Green Baby's resurrection with the help of Limp Bizkit implied that there was some sort of soul that was there to be made usable and put into a new form.

And there's presumably infinite surviving Valentines in different timelines, or at least Valentines who weren't killed with act 4 and thus passed to the afterlife normally given that some of the alt-Johnnys were shown only using acts 2 or so, presumably because they hadn't learned the later ones.

The anime cut a few actually important scenes from Jonathan's and Dio's backstory that add to their characters.

Jonathan has a few scenes that show that he was, as a child, lazy and irresponsible. There's a scene where he describes to Erina how he likes to tie up a frog's legs and spin it around, throwing rocks at crows for good luck and his backstory with Danny that shows he disliked Danny and even threw rocks at him as a boy until Danny saved him from the river. The scene where he meets Erina starts with him inviting those british brats to come up the tree and smoke a pipe, and he actually beats up the bullies before they run away.

The anime also cut basically every scene of Dio and George interacting. If you’d only watched the anime you’d think George was only impressed by Dio’s table manners when actually Dio and George talk at length, almost like colleagues sometimes (this is how Dio comes to discover the mask as well). And all the while, even as a 12 year old, Dio’s processing how he can use the stuff from their conversations to further his goal of destroying Jonathan.

You can claim it's boring all you want but if they adapted these parts of Jonathan's childhood, as well as added extra scenes (the scene where Dio plays chess at the bar didn't exist in the manga), they could have made their characterizations stronger in the anime.

I like PB art too but if anything I think 12 year old Jonathan and Dio only looked like children in the anime. The manga still makes them musclebound monsters and they have nearly the same face they do as adults (until the art style shift kicks in).

Not that other anon, but I have to agree with this being a good idea, it actually feels tense and somewhat climactic before the final showdown starts, I very much prefer it over 3 separate fights in different episodes at least.
