Go to your deck and click 'Add' and add a new card manually. Then try again. If that doesn't work post a screenshot of the Add screen.
>>
>>149401226
Open anki. Click on add a card to any deck. On the very top there should be "type". Click on type button. Select the type to match what you configured on rikaisama. Most likely Japanese Copy. Import.

Type should probably be Japanese 81175 and not Japanese Copy as I said before.

Also make sure you have the deck already opened on anki as you click to import.

Alternatively, go to rikaisama options and set the types there to whatever fits the type on your anki.

Maybe if all you want is the speaking form. Personally I like learning kanji since it not only lets you learn vocab but it creates the number of connections between various things. For example the other day someone was talking about 体育の日 and without even knowing what 体育meant I figured it out because I had learned the kanji for education and body weight.
>>
>>149405984
both are pretty shitty imao.

Why not use Genki and then aiatij and tobira?
>>
>>149406124
If you're going to learn the Hirogoranas and Katatafish, make sure to do so progressively. You're bound for deきru.
>>
>>149406219
Will do, do you have any advice for learning romanjis?
>>
>>149406214
whats aijitaj
>>
>>149406252
That's high level stuff. For the time being, use google translate and copy it into a text-to-voice program.
>>
>>149406202
Even if you didn't learn kanji you would have notice by knowing stuff like 体、 団体、育つ、 保育園, ect`...

learning kanji alone is a waste of time, just knowing vocab will give you the kanji.
>>
>>149406214
Genki is made for people in classrooms man. It goes at snailpace, takes ages to get anywhere.

The JPFZ books suffer from the same snail problem, but the online courses don't.
>>
>>149406377
>It goes at snailpace, takes ages to get anywhere.
Read faster?
>>
>>149406292
Are you sure? My tomodatchi (friend) told me that his sensey (teacher) uses romanjis in his class, and he's still at a beginner level.
>>
>spend 6 hours coding for a project I have to turn in next week

>>
>>149406407
its ok programming is magnitudes easier than trying to learn Japanese
>>
>>149406377
no. each books are only 250 pages long, and beside they contain vocab/ grammar/ kanji/ and exercices.
It's perfect to reach N4 in no time.
>>
>>149406399
Sure thing. Also, make sure to ask your classmate how was his day (in Japanese!)! You guys should take turns talking about your weekend too!
>>
>>149406401
That's why he's still a beginner. Reading anything in Japanese at all as a beginner is too stressful (even Rooumandjiins), so the best approach is to use text-to-voice and google translate until you're comfortable with the way the language works. I call it progressive learning. I have 60 whole Kanjis in my Anki deck. Trust me.
>>
>>149406369
well yea you don't learn only the kanji, that's straight dumb. The various Kana that have specific readings like 予and 預 share 予 and the sound. Personally I don't see a reason not to learn Kanji and vocab simultaneously.

Anyone got any good japanese youtubers you like to watch?

I'm not big into blogshit but I'd enjoy the listening practice.
>>
>>149406399
The class activities in Genki are incredibly redundant, though. They're just there to give you listening and speaking practice. You don't miss out on anything by skipping them as a self-learner. Shouldn't take a NEET more than 2 months to get through both of them with full comprehension.

The JFZ books aren't for serious learners, and the author doesn't respect his students enough to expect them to know kana up until the fourth fucking book, and still just barely covers what Genki does, despite being nearly 3 times as long. The problem with online courses is that they don't offer enough practice to solidify what they teach.

>>149407425
This is where JFZ/George actually excels. Huge backlog of useful and entertaining content for listening comprehension with actual natives.

Does な always have to be used at the end of a sentence in order to add emphasis? I've seen な used in sentences where the sentence doesn't really work if な is anything other than a particle, but I don't know what it's function is particularly.

な at the end of the sentence is usually a more manly tier ね. The meaning isn't directly the same but you can think of it like that until you read more and understand it yourself. There's also like するな which is different and is like telling someone not to do something
>>
>>149410295
I'm not talking about situations where な is at the end of a sentence, sometimes I see it in the middle of sentences, and I'm 100% positive it has to be a particle because the words don't end up fitting if it isn't. I just don't know what it's function is.

>The 6k deck already showed 事故 I just never put two and two together.
I'd seriously consider doing Kanji study, else you risk finding that you were just skating by via a sort of 'gestalt' perception which allowed you to correctly identify a word from amongst the limited set in your deck, but completely fails you when there's so much as a change of fonts, nevermind reading a text in the wild where each Kanji might belong to any one of tens of thousands of words constituted by Kanji any one of which might be one of several highly similar ones, and you can no longer go:

>Hmm, this kinds looks like it might be that one from amongst the couple hundred I've seen so far in my deck, so it's probably that one.

Kanji study takes just 2-4 months and makes subsequent vocab aquisition so much faster and surer that you might even finish your Core6k sooner than you would otherwise.

For what it's worth, I was in exactly your situation a couple of months ago, and I'm really glad I choose to halt my Core6K and go through KKLC instead.

I mean working through a mnemonics-based course like RTK, KKLC (which I'm partial to) or even Wanikani™®$$ (the Anki deck) which teaches you to associate Kanji with keyword(s) which roughly capture their meaning.

I'd use simple recognition cards which test from Kanji to keyword(s). Don't bother learning the readings, those come with vocab.
>>
>>149411092
>which test from Kanji to keyword(s)
What is the point of doing that?
>>
>>149411092
>recognition cards which test from Kanji to keyword(s).
That sounds terrible and is not different than just straight up learning words -- okay, you're looking at one kanji versus multiple sometimes. Still -- if you're going to do kanji study to get a better feel for them, you need to go keyword to kanji.
>>
>>149411092
How many cards did you go through a day and how dedicated were you to studying? Does it teach you to write the kanji as well?

KKLC seems like the alternative to RTK I've been looking for.
>>
>>149411164
>Does it teach you to write the kanji as well?
Not if you go from kanji to keyword.
>>
>>149411228
Have you done keyword to kanji? I tried it briefly and found that it took me forever to get all my reviews done.
>>
>>149411353
>Have you done keyword to kanji?
That's the entire point of a mnemonic approach.
>>
>>149411133
>>149411161
Going from Kanji to keyword is teaches you to uniquely identify each Kanji without mixing them up, and often allows you to guess the meaning of new vocab outright or, failing that, usually provides a mnemonic hook which makes learning it much easier.

>>149411164
I went through KKLC at about 50 Kanji per day, which took me about 2-3 hours (including reviews). I can write some, not all, depending on how complex the individual mnemonic units ('radicals') are; but I focused on recognition and speed so I could proceed with vocab study.

Wheras before learning 30 words a day was a struggle, the same time investment effort now yields 50 per day and feels much less draining.
>>
>>149411092
I wouldn't really bundle WK together with those in that sense. It's very different, as it focuses on fully teaching you the kanji all at once and all of its most relevant meanings and readings, and it does so by giving you 10 to 15 vocab per kanji. Doesn't show stroke order or anything, either.

This might surprise you, but neither does reading. Nor speaking. Nor listening. The only reason to go keyword to Kanji is to learn to write as you learn the Kanji-keyword associations, which is idiotic as writing Kanji is time consuming, worthless for just about anybody, and much easier to learn after you're a fluent reader/listener instead of before.

>you might as well just go straight to memorizing the Japanese reading
Why waste one's time doing that during Kanji study instead of learning readings through vocab after Kanji study has made it easy to correctly identify words via Kanji and remember their meanings via the keywords?

I played some 30 hours worth of actual playtime (70 or so in reality) of DQ7 (3DS version). I'm not really sure about the difficulty, I've been playing (well, stopped some 2 months ago I guess) it basically since I started reading (only a few minutes/an hour per day though).
I guess the grammar is fairly easy, though I must have mined literally thousands of words from it so there's a ton of vocabulary to be learned. The convenient thing is it has furigana instead of being kana only or kanji with no furigana.
What's off-putting from the dialogue is that it's very stiff and cliche.

To be honest DQ7 bored me to death, I started DQ8 and it's looking better (it's also got some actual difficulty for fuck's sake). But I've had more fun playing other things.
If you wanna play with kana only and have fun at the same time MOTHER 2 is probably better, I haven't played it in japanese yet though.

>Nobody ever uses those in real life (I barely ever encounter them in literature either)
I am learning Japanese to read things mostly so that's fine by me.
I will certainly not stop at common, everyday use Japanese, that would be contrary to my goals.
>>
>>149417313
>what else is like that?

I don't have my old N1 textbook handy but I remember the majority of expressions in that never ever coming up "in the wild" save for a select few. かいなか is used fairly often though, I don't know what the other one is, unless you mean 名乗る which is a common word.

>>149417330
That's the point. They don't come up in things you read either. Literally the only time I can remember encountering がてら in native material was when Takeuchi P said it once in the Im@s anime and it made such a strong impression on me that I still remember it despite forgetting everything else about that show.
>>
>>149417313
>か否か
I see this often as か否かを判断する

It depends on the author though. Sometimes you read something and that persons writing style involves using the same expressions over and over again.
>>
>>149417348
And to clarify, I'm not trying to say N1 is a super high level that you don't need to attain to be fluent, that's completely false. I'm saying that the material N1 handles is handpicked in a bizarre manner because there's a ton of extremely formal expressions you'll never use or hear unless you become the Emperor's bodyguard or some shit and then a fuckton of more common expressions that are not covered at all and that you HAVE to pick up by reading.
>>
>>149417372
>that persons writing style involves using the same expressions
thats actually a blessing for beginners like me, i noticed it with 悪の華

Programming is easy, but because it's so easy they make you do it fast, which isn't fun or enjoyable.
In a work environment you'll literally never work on your own or create anything new. You're put in a team of autists that take it too seriously, and you have to cobble shit together that works with some database system that's 15 years old (because replacing it with something that isn't shit would bring the whole business down, since older programmers tied everything else into it). Computer Programming is one of the highest suicide rate.
It's fun for a hobby, like if you want to develop useful personal tools or want to recreationally create a video game, but doing it as a career is an absolutely terrible idea.

That's not quite true for every job.
I worked 3 month internship last year.

But I could work off tasks completely autonomous and only had to deal with other people came lunch.
And once I was done for the day I could just learn Japanese until work time was over.

the problem isn't female workers in the workplace, it's the combination of income equality and expecting both adult members of a household to be employed at full time jobs

thus, there's no homekeeper, everyone is always busy, and nobody has any money. know what that does? it perpetuates incompetence, including among female workers, especially because they're culturally being forced into a place that culturally hates them. so, you end up with HR departments and administrative departments full of secretaries that hate their jobs and never get anything done and spend their work days gossiping. of course, it's not their fault, it's capitalism's fault. there is no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism

I'm currently reading Hanahira and this came up
>佳織ちゃんの言葉はごもっともなんだけど、あたしには残された時間というものがなくて
I get the first sentence but I'm having a hard time wracking my brain out with the second. First off, how is 残された used here. Yes, I've encountered it in TK grammar but didn't quite get the 'passive' and 'causative' ones since I'm not all too familiar with English grammar labels. Can some kind anon provide me like a 'raw translation' of the second sentence.
>>

>あたしには残された時間というものがなくて
It pains me that for me there is no such thing as "left over time"

Don't forget that suffering passive exists.

残された時間 is just "time one has left", it's a common phrasing. In my mind I justify the passive form by considering it a figure of speech implying that the time is what was given to them by some higher form of order in life, a God of sorts. It's really just a result of them being in the situation causing the time to be a result of said situation.

>>
>>149429122
I ate a steak.

Passive is not a hard concept anon. Maybe you should try understanding it in your own language first. Or are you ESL?
Maybe it doesn't even exist in your language.
>>
>>149429192
>Maybe it doesn't even exist in your language.
I doubt it very much. It's almost like having no subject in a sen- nevermind.
>>
>>149429122
It means that the patient of an action is written as the subject instead of the object. "Patient" is a semantic idea, but "subject" and "object" are syntax ideas.

>I bought bread.
Active. Subject is not patient.
>Bread was bought by me.
Passive. Subject is patient.
>>
>>149429122
I have a harder time with causative for some reason
>>
>>149429122
It has differing significance depending on the context.
The idea that the passive specifically draws attention to the fact that the object is being acted on gave birth to the concept of 'the suffering passive' which is somewhat misleading.

In the passive sentence, the verb acts on the subject, and に marks the person who carried out the action.

No, nothing suffering about it. In fact it's probably best to forget the whole suffering thing and just judge the tone of the sentence by context.

>>
>>149432545
This is one of those cases where you need to look in a grammar guide, not a dictionary. だけは can mean a lot of different things based on context.
>>
>>149432545
だけ here is the particle "just". If you keep that in mind, you'll be able to notice the difference between when the two meanings are used.
>>
>>149432704
>だけ here is the particle "just"
That's wrong. だけ emphasizes extent in either direction. With "just" you are emphasizing small extent, but だけ can also emphasize larger extent as it does here.
>>
>>149432776
I didn't say "a particle that means 'just'", I said "the particle 'just'". There's a very big difference.
