Hinestly if it weren't for the gay I don't think I could watch this dude to the QUALITY of the skating. First ep and promo had alot of promise of being about pretty animation and movement. Then it went all down hill and I have to look away because of how embarassing the animation can get. It's fine when it's one off or certain scenes in other shows but when it it's the focus of it and the skating sequences are long and MAKE you watch it, it's just painful to the eye. Well the song he was skating to in episode 1 does talk about two beings, both lonely and abandonned, finding each other.
Moreover he is a playboy, and of course things aren't that simple, but that urge to seduce people and to seek attention (by skating or surprising people, or both) is usually found in people who lacked that attention and love growing up. An emotional and flawed skating can impress the audience as much or even more than any specific element. In the end his main goal will change from himself to Yuuri because he won't want him to make the same mistakes he did. While being aware he will never be able to skate again professionally due to his age, he will find a new form of enjoyment in teaching others, something he didn't seriously consider when he first went to Japan.
