I dont know, when I was a kid I liked his color scheme and that he looked pretty confident and cool.
Then he didnt took shit from no one, and even after getting beat he keep getting up and kept barking. Plus he was clever too and wasnt stupid.

Marrying him to Bulma was a really smart move and Trunks was really awesome. I also liked how his character evolved.
