Kayo moved away to live with her grandmother and wouldn't have reappeared for years anyway. She stopped being a heroine and potential love interest the moment her story arc ended and that's fine. Childhood crushes aren't meant to last and though the MC may have grown to like Kayo, that was because of how oddly his child self meshed with his adult mind. There was never any indication that he still had feelings for her when back in his adult body and his main reason for saving her had nothing to do with affection anyway.

The only "issue" I have is that the story took a rather drastic turn by making the MC a cuck, it just robbed the story of a truely satisfying ending. Also it isn't about "shipping" or not.
