Except for Death Note and SAO, I usually enjoy the second halves of anime just as much, if not more, than the first halves. Sure, the novelty of the premise has worn off and things don't feel as sleek and new, but the stories usually get better. Yeah, the flaws are exaggerated by time and the direction of the story, but so are the good things. For example, look at Gurren Lagann. The second half suffers from the haphazard plot of the first half, but this is far overshadowed by the real point of the show, the completely ridiculous mechas. It takes what was already a great thing, and makes it fucking amazing. Same with Code Geass. The plot gets even more ridiculous than R1, but it's also even more fucking amazingly ridiculous.

But, a lot of people on /a/ think it's better for a series to have no content at all then for it to be flawed, so it's no surprise they like the usually simpler and safer first seasons.

For me personally, Another.

Another surprised me in that it was an animation that was accomplishing a suspenseful horror very well. There was atmosphere, spooky mystery, it was building up well. Unfortunately, as it turned out, it was building up to an ending in which atmosphere goes out the window and everyone gets brutally killed in such a rapid succession that it was more darkly comedic than anything else- I think that may even have been there intention, I don't know, but I thought it was far detached from the appeal of the earlier episodes. Atmospheric horror is hard to do, anyone can do violence.
