Why would it be clever if he never knew about the ability? Araki probably made him only punch because he didn't want him to get outright killed when the attack bounced back.

Why didn't Okuyasu get any good fights? He's spends most of his screentime being a retard.

How would it bounce back if he erased it? There was also such a long wait when he punched it, he could have taken his time walking away if it somehow sprouted back into existence. Erasing is the one thing he can do, and the story goes on so much about how stands become second nature to their users that dealing with the situation instantly should have become instinct. It would have made more sense for him to not be there at all.

Because he can only swipe away fist-sized objects in a swipe. It's not as if he can delete the whole tower, he has to start from one leg and it'll topple on him. Technically he can start from the top but he can't hover or fly and he doesn't have the time to set up a harness with a crane.
