Westerners usually have more prominent noses, even the smaller nosed people would look big by anime standards. Every race has some unflattering feature, anime designs transcend that and creates more idealized features that make it seem almost inhuman, I don't think giant eyes belong to any race anyway. So pretty much aliens.
