Because Funimation didn't care about hiring the game cast for the dub for the first Danganronpa anime.

Even though for Danganronpa 3 they got a decent amount of game dub actors from Danganronpa 2 to reprise their roles, Funimation still chose to keep the actors from their Danganronpa 1 anime dub which was a terrible decision.

Yes thank you with the biggest case being Sayaka Ohara's Erza who is so bad I actually prefer her dub voice over it, in fact the FT dub is better in general just for the sheer fact the English performances are actually trying to voice the characters and not just using their regular voices due to popularity.

Ghost Stories was comedic gold because they where having fun. DR is actually trying to localize and that's what makes it so cringe. I noticed Funimation has been doing this with all of its recent dubs like Cheer Boys (someone literally says they have "white boy rhythm") and that Gamergate comment from Prison School.

Fortunately, Heroic Legend of Arslan wasn't touched and the old timey English only helps given the setting. But the localization jokes rip out the soul of the original. Some jokes obviously wont make sense (as mentioned in the Excel Saga dub where they joke about Japanese puns not making sense) but it's really irksome when you know what was originally being said.

I'm ok with dubs as a whole. Unless the acting is 90's bad, I'd rather watch a dub anyway. But when it does this, I can't. /blog

I speculate shit dubs nowadays are usually the result of one or more of the following
>bad casting and/or very limited VA pool
>dub studios not giving a fuck because many dub watchers nowadays are bottom feeders who legitimately do not give a single shit as long as it's translated
>rigid 1:1 translations because dub studios don't have the time (and/or sometimes the talent) to try and rewrite things so it fits better

I find myself more inclined to watch dubs of things from around 2005 or earlier because there's a higher chance of the dub not being fuck-awful since the studios probably had a lot more time on their hands thanks to there being far less pressure to "get shit out the door ASAP"

No matter how bad things are now with select dubs it is not representative of the company as a whole but the ADR director/writer that works on the dubs in comparison to 4kids which was shit all around due to the lack of respect the company had for the original source of material to fit their kid friendly agenda which 9 times out of 10 never worked out for them. Funi dubs tend to be hit or miss moreso in regards to their simucast since there's no quality control but at the same time depending on the property they'll put x amount the effort and fix their flubs for the home release that kind of management DID NOT EXIST WITH 4KIDS.

Nostalgiafag pls that dub is technically bad but it works well with something like YGO because its ripe for ridicule due to its premise.
