Generally, humans become shittier and shittier the more of them are packed into one place.
Everyone on 4chan should be familiar with this principle. I'm sure everyone here has been part of some obscure fanbase or community that was pretty good, but then gained a bunch of popularity and then became shit. The same thing happens with all of these factors whenever human population goes up.

However, humans are also generally very prone to tribe mentality. They'll assume wherever they're from is the best without any real evidence, even if where they're from actually sucks by every measurable margin.

But in spite of this, whenever any kind of discussion comes up like this one, because there are tons of people from those shitty but high population areas, they all circlejerk and echo off each other, making them mistakenly think they're good just because a bunch of them are all saying it.

There is low unemployment rate in the Midwest due to the large number of huge national corporations stationed here, and it's notably low in ND due to the fraking boom

Foodhardship is lessened when there are large argicultural industries nearby in stable environments.

Housing is cheaper when there is less demand for it, in low population areas. I'm surprised that they didn't spend more in ND with the housing shortage there in 2012 though.

I don't know who in the hell responded to that happiness survey, though. Everyone seems pretty miserable here.

Bismarck is situated in a gorgeous river valley, and the Missouri is a really great place to spend the weekend. The economy is pretty solid, though it does suffer a bit with inflation from the nearby oil boom but as long as youre employed in town too it shouldn't hurt much. As the second most populous city in the state, and the capitol, it's got no shortage of things to do.

Minot is in essentially the same position as Bismarck, except without the Missouri and with a bit less amenities. But it makes up for that with a fantastic community and generally a really quaint vibe to it. It's got a great railroad & swedish heritage and also the state fair.

Williston is dull as a town, but it's got a real western feel to it. The community is non-existent and it feels sort of wastey, but you don't need to worry about that with Lake Sakakawea and the badlands so nearby. The economy has taken a serious hit though in recent years, unless you're working in the oil field or are already employed there, good luck not living out of your car.

Fargo sucks in almost every regard. The Red River sucks, the Red River Valley sucks, and given it's status as the largest city for hundreds of miles with 3 universities, it's also jam-packed with liberals. But it does have a knock out economy, you could get hired in literally a day after moving there. There's also decent-ish parks I guess and lakes country is less than an hour away. It also gets some solid events and attractions with such a significant population.

Grand Forks, as far as I've experienced, is horrid. Nothing at all for hours in any direction. A stupid college town surrounded by flat sprawling suburbs, and beyond that frozen wastes.
