I don't know where they want to go with this. The original was essentially about how there is no free wish, not even when you win, with a sprinkle of "faith can literally shape the world", plus a couple of other things.
Here I assume the idea is telling us that memories are different from what the thing really was, and it is interesting, but I don't know, I feel like this is a very secondary element to having to survive. Aw come on, you too? Almost every thread someone's bitching that this or that isn't as good as the past series.

Of course people are gonna compare them, that was obvious from the moment a new series was announced but still, I don't think those complaints are being fair. Both selector and Lostorage have their own approaches to certain things, for sure, so comparing them is fine but it doesn't have to be a competition, it doesn't have to be for the sake of bringing one down at the expense of the other because both are fantastic shows in their own right.

I mean, if it was just a carbon copy in all aspects then people would just bitch about that instead, that nothing changed. Call me an idealist but I actually think most, if not all, of the changes were done as a reflection on selector and are supposed to be improvements. To be more specific, it ranges from smaller things, like the inclusion of boys (say what you want but this does let the writers bring out character dynamics that otherwise wouldn't have been possible) to what I see as the biggest change, the faster pace. I believe they did that intentionally, to keep everything focused and avoid some of the more meandering parts that infected and spread had. The pace now is swift and on point but also not so fast as to leave the audience behind and confused.
Bottom line is, I don't think these changes are because of writer's inexperience or something, no, I think they're deliberate changes and a response to what worked and what didn't previously and I'm very happy the creators got a chance to have a do-over and show us that they learned because chances like that are pretty rare.

I hope you don't take this personally, I'm not really responding to just this one comment but to the general attitude in the threads. I know that you put a lot of work and love into this franchise with all the side material so thank you for that, Akatsukin.

While I understand your frustration with people comparing it to the original, I think you're targeting the wrong poster. Comparing specific aspects such as art direction and ost are inevitable in a sequel series, and actually make for good discussion. The problem comes when people bring their expectations of a series into it without letting the new series do its own thing (this happened to spread, with people projecting their kowai-Ruu head cannon when there was little in Infected to support it, and there are some posts like that for Lostorange). It's a distinction, but 'this series isn't as technically well put together as the first' isn't 'this series doesn't match my image of Wixoss'. The first is basis for some semi-objective discussions, the second is purely your own preconceptions and expectations, which literally no one cares about.

I am really enjoying Lostorage. I think it has the potential to be better than Infected and Spread as a whole (maybe not Infected on its own).

A truly satisfying ending would alone be something it would have on the original series.

Something I really love about Lostorage so far is how the characters beg for mercy when they're about to lose. It seems very human, like how they just cut the crap and start begging for human decency. The one character who just couldn't bring himself to (the blond dude with the loli selector) was a nice touch. I think this is a really convincing, human response to this bizarre situation the selectors are finding themselves in.

The only thing we need more of, in my opinion, is the character bonding and slice-of-life stuff that we had in the original series. I need a reason to care about these characters instead of just backstory dumps and cliche flashback scenes. It seems like we're gonna get some of that now with Dr. Hanna.

Another thing to keep in mind: The thing that ruined Spread was that the series turned into a massive exposition dump. After a while every episode was just characters explaining to each other more stuff about how the selector system works and so on. It seems like in Lostorage we're getting that out of the way early on, setting all the ground rules, and maybe that'll set the stage for something really interesting.

I actually preferred the set up in Selector, where it was a shitty deal that was easy enough to walk out of, but it was set up in such a way that people kept battling even as the stakes got higher and higher (losing is bad, but I still have my wish, LRIG doesn't want to share full info, I don't want my LRIG stuck in a card, etc). Maybe in infected, but I feel spread dropped the ball in this regard. A super high-stakes gamble that you refuse to back out of because you're desperate is fine in and of itself, but this is undermined if you make the result of winning bad and the cast learns that it's bad.

Motivations for battoru either shift to short-term unrelated reasons (need to battoru to get information, because someone's being threatened, etc.) or because someone actively needs or wants to become a LRIG for various reasons, which are a lot less universal and sustainable.

Ruuko was actually a loner as well. No friends at the start of the series, not even a childhood waifu like Suzu. And shortly after meeting Yuzuki and Hitoe, Yuzuki leaves to chase her wish, and Hitoe loses and forgets her.

I think the scene of Suzu talking to Ril while she ate dinner because she has literally no one else to talk to was one of her character's strongest scenes, and I wish that angle got a bit more development, rather than the stronger focus on the battles.

That being said, I am really enjoying Lostorage, and each episode seems to feel more confident and solid in its direction than the previous one.
