Ganbatte means "Do your best." The Japanese have no casual term for "good luck".
>>
>>149188005
Because it's not standard English, it's wa-eigo.

See: high tension, fight!, one piece, etc.

Just taking it as is and putting it into the English subs would make as much sense as translating "library" into French as "librairie", because they look almost the same and are related words.

retard tier strawman. Are you seriously implying rewording "no reactionu" to "he was stonefaced/he had no reaction"(both of which work, even "no reaction" works) is the equivalent of a completely wrong translation of a word?

Or that sports clubs yelling fight! in japanese is somehow implying something different than sports clubs in other countries?

I'm saying the opposite, actually. I'm saying translating "no riakushon" to "he was stonefaced" isn't wrong, because "no riakushon" != "no reaction" because it's wa-eigo. Just like you wouldn't translate "wan piisu" to "one piece", but to "dress" instead. Maybe the "library" analogy wasn't very good, but, honestly, who cares if it gets the point accross that just because two words look similar or have a common origin that it doesn't mean they have the same exact meaning?

>Or that sports clubs yelling fight! in japanese is somehow implying something different than sports clubs in other countries?
Sports club aren't the only ones using the word "faito", tho. It's used to mean something like "don't give up" or "persevere". You don't hear English speakers telling eachother "fight!" before taking a difficult and important exam, or baking a cake for someone they like.

Wa-eigo words' meaning isn't always similar to the original English one. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not.
>>
>>149191901

That's literally what it fuckings means.

It's literally the same thing all that matters is the tone of the scene and how the character is saying it(bluntly, etc). In that scene in particular it fits perfectly

>Just like you wouldn't translate "wan piisu" to "one piece", but to "dress" instead.
Same as above. I get the feeling your basing this all on your personal social experiences and they're apparently lacking. "One piece" is often used and can be referring to a dress or swimsuit

>It's used to mean something like "don't give up" or "persevere".
So same way it's used in english asides from the literal meaning?

You sound like you'd fit right in at commie

It literally just means "Persevere!", "Insist!" or "Hang on!" - the general meaning is to continue doing something.

"Do your best!" itself is already a free translation like "good luck", just closer to the original meaning.
