First of all, she's always been somewhat possessive of Izetta. It's why she wanted her to run away (so she can survive) in the second episode. It's why she called her "my white witch" in the first.

There is so many bad things that can happen that can cause Izetta to turn on Fine, one of which is another foreshadowing that Eylstadt royalty might just be a country of Witch Hunters. You need to watch the scene again. After penetrating, a spot within the lance started to coalesce into an explosion. Since the interior of the tank has ammunition and fuel, that would set that off in a nice fuel-enhanced fireball with fuel smoke and fuel boosted flames.

The citizens and architecture of the country don't seem to be suffering all that much, so the Germans are not practicing total warfare to make the armies unable to fight due to lack of food or fuel production and transportation. So I assume it is the author's forced plot logic that all common sense military options are forbidden unless they contribute to his tunnel vision adventure for Izetta. At least the major has more than the bare minimum of plot, so he isn't there just to be provide threat suspense for Izetta.

Because the author or production committee doesn't use military common sense. Since there is no purpose to the road now that the endpoint (empire) is hostile, Fine should have ordered the destruction of the roadway. explosives would have dropped the road down the cliff. Do that in enough parts and it would provide a good long long long delay.

The plot also ignores mentioning a lot of practical things probably so that there can be no way for the audience to complain when something is whipped out. Thus the audience doesn't know enough contradictory facts to say that wasn't possible or couldn't be that way.

Well, people just don't seem to take the war seriously in this show. They are only serious when it serves the immediate plot and then later on, they change personality and be lax. It's a very "webnovel" type logic approach. The characters aren't written as if they are alive and making rational decisions a living creature would make. Instead, they are characters that change personality and demeanor as needed for each set piece situation. The script then makes use of the week long break between episodes to demarcate a new set piece situation. It's not like this show was written to be one of those "re-watchable" type shows after all.
