How has Satoshi Mizukami not had an anime adaptation yet?

Between Hoshi no Samidare and Spirit Circle he has a lot of potential for a good adaptation, provided the studio is good.

Not to mention some of his other tales.
>>
Spirit Circle was so goddamn good.

Mizukami is great, I'm sure someday someone will adapt one of his works.
>>
>>149092315
I just finished reading it tonight - not that it's a long series - and I was so satisfied (even though, of course, I'd love to see exactly how Fuuta's life goes I understand the reason for the way it ended, and I ultimately respect it).

It's so good.

Mizukami's artstyle is very unique as well.

My guess is that he simply doesn't want to.

If that rumor about the cancelled Biscuit Hammer adaptation is true maybe that left him with a bad taste, or maybe he simply doesn't feel like his stories would translate well into anime.

Or he's just not popular enough in Japan to get anime offers.

>If that rumor about the cancelled Biscuit Hammer adaptation is true maybe that left him with a bad taste, or maybe he simply doesn't feel like his stories would translate well into anime.
I've never heard about this.

What's the story?
>>
>>149092591
Mizukami got an offer from Gainax for a Biscuit Hammer adaptation way back, and he obviously wanted The Pillows to make the soundtrack (All of the attacks in the manga are references to The Pillows songs), but since their label is really fucking expensive Gainax couldn't promise it and it fell through.

This has never been actually confirmed though but it seems that Gainax did indeed approach him about an adaptation many years back that never saw the light of day.
>>
>>149092680
Interesting.

I guess there's no reason to do something if you can't do it right.

I wonder what he'll work on next, manga-wise. As far as I'm aware, Spirit Circle is his most recent work.

The day Mizukami stops drawing manga is the day I stop drawing breaths.
>>
>>149092823
Sengoku Youko ended two months after Spirit Circle but started 5 years before it, so I'm not sure if you'd count that as more recent or not.
>>
>>149092946
I meant something new, but I'll look into reading Sengoku Youko.

I haven't read everything he's written yet. I should get on that.
>>
>>149093083
I recommend checking out Psycho Staff. Short and cute.H
>>
>>149093137
What's it about?
>>
>>149092393
>or maybe he simply doesn't feel like his stories would translate well into anime.
Spirit Circle could be adapted really well into an anime I think.

Give it 2 cours and really focus on the past lives as individual arcs and you've got a show.

>>149092680
>the pillows
>the flcl band

Kinda hacky to want the same tunes
>>
>>149093752
They were a band before and after FLCL
>>

that's a meme story

>>149092260
Both are pretty bad.

Here's your (you)
>>

Because most of his stuff is published by Shonen Gahosha, and as far as I know they have had a total of three series adapted to anime this century - Hellsing, Drifters, and Arpeggio.
>>
>>149095930
Is that so? What's the cause? General non-popularity? Do studios not like the magazine?
>>
>>149092260
he's the "no pillows, no anime" manga autist, right?
>>
>>149096069
Seemingly yes, but I admire that dedication.

No point in not getting them when your manga is full of references
>>
>>149096022
Turns out I'm full of shit, actually. I looked it up and SoreMachi, Kawaiisou, and a bunch of early 00s stuff were also from them. Ignore me.
>>
>>149096087
Then he's not going to get an adaptation with those terms, not in this dacade anyway. Parasyte was adapted 20 years after it was published, but with aesthetics adapted for the year the anime aired. Even Osumatsu (1962 manga) was adapted to our year.

Facts:

>Mizukami does want anime of his works, particularly a feature length movie of Psycho Staff
>The Gainax adaptation rumor is just a rumor sourced from a Newtype Magazine interview that never happened
>The magazines his series run in haven't had very anime many adaptations. Though there should be more than just >>149095930. Soredemo Machi Mawatteiru is one of them.
>The main reason for no anime when asked on the matter - neither he nor the editorial staff believe any adaptations would be profitable
>The editorial staff at Young King Ours are actually quite fond of the guy but business is business
>He digs the fact that gaijins like his work
>Best girl in his series is Mountain Bitch

Also, apparently Oregairu's author is a fan of his.
>>
>>149096316
For Lucifer, no - that probably won't get an adaptaton.

But I think Spirit Circle could get one, and that doesn't require The Pillows

My guess is it just doesn't sell enough to get an adaption. If everyone here that liked it imported the manga from japan maybe it would help. That's not going to happen though, so just be happy with the manga.

The guy even uploads to pixiv, his sengoku youko stuff barely manages 50 bookmarks.
>>
>>149096404
>>He digs the fact that gaijins like his work
It's always nice when the authors appreciate our admiration.

The Log Horizon guy is the same.

Yeah, like I said, I fucked that up. They had quite a few in 2000-2005, and in the last decade they've had at least five, which isn't a ton but not miniscule either. Unless I'm missing something, though, their only adaptation in the late 00s (when Biscuit Hammer would have been most likely to get one) was the second adaptation of Hellsing. I hope I'm not missing something this time, too.
>>
>>149096466
I didn't realize he had a pixiv. Guess I gotta follow him now

Nice.

Does he draw art for his own series too? I have to assume so, right?

Espers.
>>149093137
Is right. A lot of Mizukami's shorts are remarkably cute!
>>
As much as I want adaptations for his works, just looking at the current state of the industry means you'll need a dedicated studio who actually likes his works, and not just because of business opportunities.
>>
he's an okay mangaka
nothing special
guess there's some mainstream shounen appeal
