It's not that simple tho, it's implied that Asuka teased shinji again but this time it was about having sex, it's also implied that after shinji realized he was being used it he started arguing with Asuka who complained about him not being as good of a man as Kaji so Shinji snapped at her telling her Kaji was dead at that point, which led to the scene in the kitchen of them arguing and shinji chocking Asuka, that probably being the reason of why she escaped from Misato's dept by episode 24.
