I've been on /a/ for only three months and I've seen at least 10 threads discussing the plot of the show. Which is about 10 times more plot discussion threads than every other show older than 1 year got in the same time span. But they are the minority of threads I'll give you that.

I just finished EVA for the first time, pretty good interesting characters but the anime failed to move me, I liked the ideas that presented but I didn't feel emotional about the anime atleast not as much as I spected, but i was fun to watch that's for sure, it also feels like it needs one more chapter but i guess that is something that one of the movies fixes?

Also Misato was the best one and that isn't saying much about the rest of the girls
