What are you working on? What do you want scanlated?

Didn't work on anything for years, have some free time to get back to scanlation. Where can I find some translators? I want to work on some HibaNa stuff but I have only 3 issues in RAW.
>>
>What are you working on?
Typesetting and redrawing Tsurezure Children.

>What do you want scanlated?
This oneshot dump from yesterday:
http://pastebin.com/Z2Dcf5Yc

We had two anons come through to translate, clean, and typeset it, so I think it just needs redraws and QC.
I said I'd do it, and I intend to, but if anyone else is free to do it, be my guest.

Anybody knows what font is this?

Reposting for the sake of convenience:

I need someone to clean and redraw Love Lab. My current cleaner has been MIA for several weeks and won't respond to my email. She was very enthusiastic and dependable till now, so I'm worried that something major must have happened (death in the family, hospitalized, etc). In the meantime, I need a substitute to fill in until she returns, if ever.

In exchange for your services I will translate a manga or doujin of your choice, the former preferably short or nearly completed.

If interested, please email me.

New to translating manga. How the fuck do I fit horizontal English text into a nearly vertical Japanese text bubble? Specifically the top right text bubble in the bottom left panel.

Fuck, the translating part isn't even that hard but I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to putting words on pages.
>>
>>148921311
Post the text first that goes into that bubble. I mean both texts.
>>
>>148921311
Try to find a bigger resolution and then you will have space to write.

>>148921311
Don't be afraid to break words up so that they fit better vertically.
"Seriously" can become "seri//ously", "seri//ous//ly", "se//ri//ous//ly"

And you can let the text come out of the bubble with stroking. It's not as jarring as you might think.

So in the last panel of your example, I might do:
"Ka//ga/ri//ii!!"
"Apolo-gize to Leader Maxie" (or Matsu//basa"
>>
>>148921443
What are you talking about? The text size should be relative to the bubble. It doesn't matter if it ends up being 4pt, 14pt, or 60pt. The problem is that there is like no horizontal space.

>>148921429
The text for that bubble is supposed to be

カガリいいッ!)
"Kagariii"

リーダーマツブサに「ごめんなさい」を!
"Tell leader Matsubusa you're sorry!"

There are decent editing guides out there if you look for them so I suggest consulting those first. Not even an editor but breaking up words as >>148921587 said is the basics, just make sure you don't break a syllable.
>>
>>148921790
In this case, combining the text boxes like this anon looks reasonable, but in general, I'd advise against it.
>>
>>148921587
>>148921790
Alright, thanks anons. I'll try breaking up words like that then.
>>
>>148921790
Also, what font is that? It looks nice.

How do you guys feel about adjusting the colors of a colored page to make sure the colors stand out more?

I want to adjust some pages, but I don't have the actual physical book to be able to compare it with. Should I just leave them alone, even though I know it looks like the scanner made them lighter?
>>
>>148923083
Cleans pretty much never look like the physical book because of the paper they're printed on. Just make sure whites and blacks are the way they should be, all the other colors should hopefully be fine once you're there. Minor adjustments are fine if you think they make it look better, but don't go too far.
>>
>>148923175
Thanks, that's a good tip.

I'm always worried that I'm making things too dark or too light respectively, so I've been trying to check back and forth constantly between the clean and original to make sure, so it's good to hear that I might be doing it fine.

First attempt at putting words on pages. D-did I do okay...?

Are there any minor things I messed up like sizing and positioning?

Also, is there some really good guide to translating sound effects? I didn't realize until recently that I didn't really have a good way to translate "ぬ...う..." until that other anon posted his example.

>>148923083
Use the histogram to see how much of each channel there is. I assume you are going to be using 8-bit RGB. There is three channels in standard RGB colour space, red, blue and green. The easiest way to adjust colours is through crtl + b.

In general a scanner that uses a cathode will add green and a scanner that uses LEDs will add blue. There are exceptions but this works as a general rule.
>>
>>148923580
Not a guide, but this site can be helpful:
http://thejadednetwork.com/sfx/

I would probably go with "...this // is going" in the first bubble, just so the shape is a little closer to the bubble. (I don't think you should bend over backwards to do that, but when it's easy to do, or when not doing it would be really ugly, I'd go for it)
>>
>>148923700
Alright, thanks for the advice anon.

Himeiden and Mitsukubi Condor, need either Korean scans or a Jap translator for either series to continue them.

>What do you want scanlated?
Hojotai Mozukus or Five Billion Nights. I would love to work on either of these series if a translator would come forward.

I'll scan FBN if anyone picks it up.
>>
>>148926840
Nice, there's a public raw already out, but good to know that better scans can be done. You with Habanero?
>>
>>148923629
This is really useful to know, appreciate you pointing it out.

I didn't even know that you could have a histogram let alone see all the colors, interesting stuff about scanners too.

Do higher end scanners not add as much of those other colors or something, is that part of the reason the nicer ones get pricer?

Does anyone know to reduce the file size of an PNG file without losing the quality in Photoshop? I got 2-5MB files that I have no clue what to do with.

Hello there anons.
I would like to learn how to clean manga.
Any guides you guys would suggest I browse?
I have no experience with photoshop, but I do have the program at least.
>>
>>148938068
I'm a noob too who's working on his first project. I found this website helpful.

http://www.questie.com/manga/ScanEditGuide/editing.htm

The main thing you need to learn is how to remove text that is written over art. Black text written over a plain white background is easy to remove. Then there's other things like word spacing and picking the right font.
>>
>>148938504
That website gave my eyes cancer
>>
>>148938068
Just use digital raws and you won't have to clean at all. If you do a chapter and put a note in that you need help redrawing or whatever, you can usually find someone interested.
>>
>>148938504
Thanks anon, I actually found this site
Which has the site you provided.

http://www.insidescanlation.com/backgrounds/guides.html

I am currently watching this video
Which seems pretty helpful too.

https://youtu.be/ZVWt0hgxrAE

Anyone have a raw and a cleaned page that I may use?
The raw to practice on and the cleaned one to serve as the example on how it is supposed to look?
