This is some of the dumbest fucking apologism.

No matter what, Rossiu fled into space with a plan to wait for Earth to become inhabitable after the moon hits the planet. The added factors are that their enemies could travel where ever regardless of terrain and were adamant on killing humans while Rossiu had forgone the greatest defense his people could have hoped for with nothing coming close in its arsenal to reaching its power.
It's an objectively fucking terrible plan and going with the ridiculous apologism of "if only it were grimdark" doesn't change that at all, and would probably more condemning for Rossiu, as his chances for death would have skyrocketed in a grimdark show.

I don't get why people didn't latch onto the "did nothing wrong" meme with Rossiu even though he is more justifiable than most of the characters that actually do get it

OP is entirely right. Rossiu's ideology was flawed, but he had the best intentions. Rossiu is every bit as necessary to the series as Kamina, they are counterpoints to one another. Without either of them, Simon would not have been able to take the hard middle path that was necessary for humanity to prosper.
