A night of upper management drinking themselves into a bad idea. Or a calculated move.

Consider the fact that even though it was a budget production KLK was so successful (regardless of opinion on quality) they felt confident enough to open a whole new physical branch location staffed with a mix of old and new people.

It was obvious the next full show they made was going to be compared to that success and it was very unlikely to be a lightning strikes twice event. Now obviously they would have wanted to have another runaway success, but Trigger was not founded by people new to the industry.

So what did they do? They gave the main studio a side project to twiddle their thumbs over that might have turned out good but could have been laughed off if bad as an experiment, while handing Kizniver to the new B team (which they did) which was likely to turn out meh at best but might have turned out bad which they could have just blamed "new studio, new schedules, etc". All while planing out how to capitalize on the properties they have access to. Thus we get a LWA anime now and whatever mecha-inspired thing is in the pipeline.

On release of the BDs for sale KLK was the 5th highest release and maintained through the volumes. Kizniver was 7th on release and then dropped like a stone so far the last volume didn't even chart in the top 30.

I'm not saying the show was bad or good, it's just the reality that it was not going to sell like KLK unless a miracle happened, which didn't. And they have concrete reasons they can put on paper to show investors "why did X fail to meet sales targets" instead of "we had a risky idea but did it anyway".

Luluco would be perfect if it wasn't for the awful third season. The KLK episode was good because it wasn't afraid of making fun of KLK but the LWA and S&V episodes were forced as fuck.

But Luluco's ending is easily the best ending of 2016 so far. Trigger-chan reveal was brilliant.
