I watched it chronologically because I was lurking /a/ for shows but didn't want to spoil anything so I just downloaded it and watched it without knowing. No, I didn't skip E8, why would anyone do that?
>>
This show has some of the cringiest and shittiest writing I've seen.
>>
The airing order is the only one that makes sense. The chronological order on the dvd/blu-ray release is basically KyoAni being trolls.
I dropped Endless 8 as it was airing and later skimmed it because KyoAni was clearly just screwing with us.

The order it aired because I watched it as it aired.
Witnessing Endless 8 on /a/ was not something to be missed, but I wouldn't want it to happen again.
>>
The order it aired makes it tolerable to watch, chronological order is boring as fuck with stuff like 3 episodes about making the shit movie and the movie turns shit.
I watched endless 8 but after the second I had it in half screen while I did something else.

The fucking idiot Elysium subs did a stupid thing where they rearranged the episodes into chronological order so I watched it in that order without even knowing, then I watched it in broadcast order again.

Either order is fine I think.

I watched the first 5 episodes of endless eight and skipped the rest.
>>
Watched endless 8 all in one night

I actually just finished Season 1 earlier today (Broadcast Order), and I'm about to start watching Season 2.

What's all the bad stuff I'm hearing about the Endless 8 episodes?
>>
>>148637136
It' basically a summer break episode that gets remixed slightly 8 times. It is not enjoyable.
>>
>>148637305
Why did they do that?
>>
>>148633350
Broadcast order while it was airing. The two months of rage during the endless eight event was pretty funny.
>>

It's padding to fit the 14 episodes format. Watch some E8 if you enjoy the cinematography trickery, skip to the last one if you're tired of it. Look forward to the fucking movie.

Watching it chronologically, but, if you read the novels, in the order which were released. And watching 3 or 4 episodes of endless eight, because they aren't the same shit so do it for the wonderful KyoAni's animation.
But the first time I watched this show I only found like 10 episodes and, although that, I still loved it.

Airing order, I was confused as fuck but got the grasp of it after a while.

>>148633350
>What order should you watch it in?
Chronological because you're watching the 28 episodes and there is no point on airing order for that.

>>148633350
>Did you skip endless 8?
No, I watched it while it was airing.
>>
>>148638044
It's just harmless fun. I liked Day of Sagittarius too.
>>
The broadcast order. I fast-forwarded E8, then after several months came back and watched it again at normal speed.
>>
>>148633350
Chronological order has the disadvantage that it places most of the best and most eventful episodes in the first half of the series, messing up the careful balance of season 1. For instance, the season 1 finale, perhaps one of the greatest episodes of anything ever is placed as episode 6 in chronological order, eclipsing everything that comes after it and reducing the rest to boring SOL.
It also destroys the delightful puzzle element that was part of the fun in season 1. Plus the art style switches from episode to episode, which can be annoying.

Don't watch it in chronological (Blu-ray) order.
Watch season 1 as it aired and then season 2 as a bonus. Or, if you wish, season 1 and 2 together as it aired in 2009, so chronologically.
Then Disappearance for the ultimate Haruhi experience.

Then Haruhi-chan and Nyoro~n.
Avoid the Satelight disaster called Yuki-chan like the plague.

Oh yeah, only faglords skip E8.
>>
>>148638686
What's the season 1 finale? Someday in the rain?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part Six, that's the season finale in broadcast order, as it should be.
Someday in the Rain is a terrific episode, but it only works as a series finale (as it is in chronological order), if you watch the movie directly after.
>>
>>148639079
Oh yeah that episode was pretty fantastic.
>>
>>148639079
And melancholy VI gets referenced on the baseball episode, but in airing order the baseball episode came before melancholy VI. That was weird.

Chronological 2009 order followed by the movie, while watching only the first, second and final parts of E8.
>>
>>148633350
>i skipped Endless 8 and the show was still bad for me

It has like 1 or 2 reasonable arcs whilst everything else is Haruhi being an obnoxious twat.
>>
>>148641785
One more thing, Hyouka is the better show if you haven't seen it...
>>
>>148633350
Watched it in airing order because I watched it as it aired. Creamed my pants when second season was announced, then E8 happened.
>>
>>148633350
Dropped after 3 episodes of the original airing.
>>
>>148633350
I watched season one in broadcasted and loved it to bits, then I rewatched with S2 in chronological and stopped half way through E8 for months. I eventually went back to it and watched the rest and in hindsight it's still one of my favourite shows even if E8 tired me out temporarily.

Broadcast order is unquestionably the best way to watch it.

I personally liked it better that way, it added an element of mystery. It was nice figuring out what Koizumi was referring to, and just smiling about it. To be fair, it is kind of "artificially created" mysteriousness, but you don't know that while you're watching it so it gets the job done. Also it just fits into the whole theme of unsaid weird stuff going on in the background that Haruhi already has going for it.

In general I feel like you lose a whole element of excitement and whimsicality when you watch it in chronological. Chronological order makes things feel more predictable and straightforward. That's the thing though, I guess some people just prefer that linearity in stories, and so they think broadcast is just "pretentious".

I also find it crazy that 10 years later, people are still discussing Haruhi's watch order or maybe it's just old Haruhifags desperate for some conversation.

Broadcast order.
>>
I watched it in broadcast order, which is the proper one. Then the movie, and then season 2.

Been thinking of rewatching it, because it's really wrong to watch the movie before season 2. Also, I probabky missed a lot in season 1 as well. This time, it'll probably be chronological, because I want that experience too, and I want to understand everything before the movie.
Been wanting to rewatch E8 for a long time
>>
>>148644069
If you've already seen it once chronological is the correct option and you're completely right about S2 before movie although I can see the appeal of getting to watch E8 after seeing the movie and having the context.
>>
I've watched it in both orders, and you should watch it in release order. It fits the anime narrative best that way. And yes, both times.
>>
>>148637373
One of the most highly anticipated second seasons of all time, at a time when the studio was doing very well for itself. The format does serve the narrative, but 8 episodes is a long time to be dragging shit like that out.

Who can say for sure what the fuck they were thinking, but if they wanted angry viewers, they sure got it. But much like the rest of the show, I'd imagine you're still supposed to look back at it all and think, "Shit, she was right, it was more fun this way."

6/8
Switched to dub to see how they did mid Endless and ended up finishing the series with the dub. Kyon's dub voice fits his exasperation towards Haruhi so well.

Movie was the best part of the whole thing, made slogging through that shitfest worth it.
>>
>you'll never marry haruhi

>>
>>148645889
It's not just mystery and excitement, it's narrative, the plot literally flows better that way, the ups and downs of the characters moods and relationships, which is even more interesting because sometimes it's far in the future of the story, and sometimes far in the past. There's actual build up, conflict, climax, and finale in the broadcast version, chronological feels disjointed and weird because the direction was for the broadcast narrative.

It has so many levels. The interaction with the movie, showing it from her perspective. Very brave, in a way no other piece of media has done before. The symbolism. The subtle differences, so much to talk about. Are the differences between the episodes small to better show the similarities? Does the way exaggerated clothes differences have any deeper meaning? It's also a commentary on otaku culture, how people keep watching the same stuff over and over. Also represented by the generic plot in the episodes. But suddenly otaku aren't happy with that? Almost every anime is a bunch of E8 episodes, if E8 is wasted time to you, maybe all anime is? It's also a piece of social art. It tell us something about human nature if we go back and read the old discussions from its airing.

It's just so deep, has so many levels. You can write books about Endless Eight. And it's completely unique. There is nothing like it.

It takes months to write a good book. If you could just slap a bunch of sentences together in an afternoon, then authors would do that and release a new book every week.
Tens of thousands of fiction books get published every year, not including vanity press dribble; if it were possible to fake it, someone would have done it by now.
