Well, episode 13 is responsible for this shit because show watchers and shitposters alike literally FLOODED the whole board with Re:Zero threads after it aired. I would have to disagree. If he was in his native environment, he would have figured it out much faster. For example, if he went to the fridge and the beef stew he ate the previous death was still in there, that would have been an obvious flag. Then other familiar things also happening around him. I think one of the reasons why RE:Zero took off was because it wasn't afraid of showing just how pathetic an autistic NEET could actually be even if he's the hero. Too many isekai and wish fulfillment stories have the MC turn into a badass who saves the day in too short of a time (ie. Konosuba), but Subaru's actions always blow up in his face until he learns better.

That said, I think his character is wildly inconsistent. He tends to 'regress' a lot (sort of like Takeru in MLA) even when he shouldn't.
