Not really. It's still shit most of the time, just like muh pure virginal romance is shit most of the time. Just like everything is shit most of the time. The importance of the characters kissing/fucking/whatever for romance stories is drastically overrated, the execution of the actual relationship is far more important. I mean, even fucking Town Where You Rage had the characters progressing through all the stages, but it was still completely terrible, and in fact the least terrible part was the early stuff where there was no intimacy.

I don't even read male MC romance because it's a beta nice guy self-insert story every time.

Shoujo heroine isn't much better, but it has more hits than the beta MC stories and there are more instances of the male character giving the girl a dose of reality instead of rewarding her beta behaviour.

My main issue is the rich hot guy falls for the pure-hearted underdog heroine because she's just so GENUINE and NICE not like the other hot girls because apparently everyone who isn't a plain literal who is an asshole.

Wolf Girl and Black Prince actually impressed me because they were both horrible people and they didn't pretend the guy was secretly a good samaritan deep down. He was an asshole when she fell for him and he stayed that way even after they started dating. He only treated her a little better because he liked her.
