Japan always made a lot of adaption, usually shoujo and josei love stories. I like watching them desu, they are better comedies than your average anime.

I actually saw the first few episodes on netflix (it's a netflix original)
Kind of weird at first because everyone knows you can't act like anime people in live action adaptations and there were quite a few shoujo clichés but they tried anyway
Though after you get used to that I found it pretty fun to watch

I´m BR and most movies made here have almost zero intention of the foreign market. From what I read, Chinese movies are on a similar state.

Depends on the country. In Australia what little film we put out is generally made with an eye to other English-language markets. There's also a lot of international productions now, think Mad Max or The Lego Movie.
