Maths isn't really that necessary a lot of the time, but if you have a decent grasp and can actually apply it reasonably quickly, you can make just about anything easier or do it more efficiently. The trick is getting people to a level where they can intuit how to apply maths to their day-to-day lives, and then actually be able to do it.
