Anyone ever try reading manga on a Kindle?

in before

>>
I have enough focusing on reading physical paperback novels, I can't concentrate at all when reading on a Kindle.
>>
>>>/g/
>>
What's wrong with owning a Kindle?
>>
>>148458623
yes. I have a few on my 2nd gen kindle, but the spacing looks like shit on the older models.

and nothing wrong with owning a kindle. I got mine brand new for $40, which was a deal for being super old and discounted(amazon seller had it boxed in a warehouse or some shit. came in the original packing, untouched) the print looks a lot better than my shitty galaxy tablet.
>>
>>148458623
I prefer using a tablet screen for the color pages and it generally serves more purpose than just being a digital library
>>
Jewish hardware.
>>
>>148458623
too small screen, kindle is 100% for reading text
You should use a tablet with large enough screen
>>
>>148458623
>owning a Kindle in public
>>
Yeah, very nice of you travel frequently. You might need to convert stuff by hand sometimes, but it's not that difficult and you can log around hundreds of volumes no problem.
>>
>>148458623
>reading manga in public
>owning a kindle
>not reading manga on your gaming PC at 200 frames per second
>>
>>148458623

>requires file converstion to said bullshit format
>slower to load/refresh than a tablet

If you insist on getting one, get a Kubo instead
>>
>>148458918
Luckily GIMP lets you do batch operations on whole entire folders at a time.

And I think Calibre can convert cbr/cbz files to mobi anyway.
>>
>>148459071
formats arent really an issue since calibre fixes it easily enough
And you should Not get an r-reader for manga unless it had twice as large screen as kindle at which point you might as well get a tablet.
>>
>>148459071
"kubo", lel. I've got one. what is best file converting program?
>>
I used to, but only a little bit because getting the files, converting them, and then dealing with that slightly offset sizing which made the speech bubbles just barely too small to read, made the experience not so great. I had to try So many workarounds to try to get the image to really be full screen and reach the edges automatically. Since it was all a bit of a hassle I only ever did enough work to save parts of two of my favorite series, but actually never went through all of them.

That was maybe four years ago on a smaller Kindle touch, though. Maybe the experience of each step is much easier now.

I got an iPad this year, and the larger screen and app functionality (was rec'd one called manga storm) made reading and getting new series WAY easier so I vastly prefer that now!
>>
>>148458623
I'm sorry but I'm not american so I'm not sure but is owning a kindle a meme?
>>
>>148458623
I got a Nexus 7 (2013) for about $100 during a sale, and it's not too bad for manga, especially since the kindle digital prices are usually cheap.

On that note, even though Lucky Star's volumes are around $3 each on kindle (and I couldn't find good scans), know their translation is kinda shit (seriously, who leaves MIKAN [orange] translated???). Did appreciate the compilation of TL notes at the end of each volume, though.
>>
>>148459749
sorry, meant UNtranslated.

>>
>>148458623
Just get any decent resolution 7 inch tablet.
Perfect size for manga. I used to read tons of shit on my Nexus 7

keep those shitty picture books to yourself babycakes
>>
>>148459866
Yes, kindles strenght is the e-ink thats easy on the eyes when reading text while a tablet is better for everything else.
Cheap tablets are like 100$ so thats the only acceptable choice as a manga reader.
>>
I have a Kobo Glo HD. Might get an Aura One for the larger screen.
>>
>tfw I use a shitty iPad 2 with a cracked screen because I got it as a gift 3 years ago
>>
i tried on a nook simple touch but the screen was too small and slow

I ended up getting a chink retina tablet instead, and it's beautiful. Played majikoi a1 on it too.

Just need to find out the best way to setup an onscreen keyboard and virtual mouse for games that don't really support touch input
>>
Got a new Kindle Fire for $50 before leaving for Japan three years ago - I mostly use it for reading American comics and novels I can't find abroad now.

Buying raw manga is cheap enough and it's a pain to find raws online high enough quality without sacrificing the hard drive space (which is low, considering it's three years old) to be worth it, so manga's out of the equation.

I hate missing out on the layouts of pages - I feel it detracts from the art if you just look at a single page at a time; since there are no ads in the middle of chapters, paneling definitely matters.

Nah, I thought about it for a while but I still hate tablets. I have a kindle but I only use it to read books before I go to sleep, the screen is too tiny to read manga anyway.

I think the best choice is to get a pivot monitor and just read with that. Or, well, an actual copy.
>>
>>148458623
I used to with a Kobo back when those were relevant. It's pretty good and convenient, I'd recommend it.
>>
I prefer manga on my 5" 450 dpi phone over my 2nd gen paperwhite, the text just isn't always readable on the kindle and the page turning is a bit slow.

The newer higher ppi ereaders would probably work just fine.

I have been reading manga on a kindle since my mother gave it to me, it's a kindle 4. It's not perfect but it's not totally awful either, the big problem is that often the image feels too small but if you rotate it reading is a pain in the ass.

Anyway, I've tried reading mango on my kindle but the screen is a tad too small: depending on the manga, I've got to squint to be able to read.
>>
>>148459071
>>>bullshit format
Just make a single pdf from the images.
>>
>>148461804
You don't need a pivot monitor, you need a VESA mount that allows rotation, which a lot of them do.
>>
>>148461456
A lot of 4channers have this mentality that anything mobile (tablets, laptops, smartphones, etc.) is for "normies."
>>
>>148463245
Tablets are for retards, laptops are for the poor, and "smart"phones are for normalfags.
Christ, newfags get worse every single year I swear.
>>
>>148461804
I tried this with an old monitor of mine but the viewing angles are garbage on it and 16:9 seems to be the wrong aspect ratio for most manga.
The monoprice monitor stand works fine though, just mount it sideways.

The only gaming I really do anymore is Minecraft with my boyfriend, and a high-end laptop is good enough for that.

I've gotten manga onto an old Kindle keyboard before and I actually prefer it on my phone. Text isn't large enough to read comfortably either way, but at least I can zoom easily on the phone. It also comes with the perk of always being in my pocket for reading on the go. I feel like a tablet would be a good medium but a rotating monitor is best.

I use an Android tablet for manga reading. No need to worry about formats or whatever the fuck, I just go online to whatever manga site I like and read it from there. I also use it as my primary e-book reader.

Buying a dedicated e-book reader when you can buy a tablet for the same price that does everything an e-book reader does plus much, much more just seems silly.

I have my 7' tablet and can keep using it for reading novels almost 16h, while reading manga and doing shit on Internet like 8h.
>>
>>148472835
Months. I don't remember when I last charged it.
>>
I prefer physical manga over anything digital. I read very little manga though.
>>
>>148473092
Then you'd have to store it somewhere. That's a hassle.

I prefer to have everything digital, and don't pay for it. Only things I pay for are operation systems (Windows), Microsoft Office, and a couple of games (usually bought on steam).

I've never bought anime, manga, or any merchandise related to it. First anime I'm going to buy will probably be Kimi no na wa.
>>
>>148473183
It's not a hassle for some. It makes me happy to look at my meagre collection of books and manga, even if I don't show them to anyone else.
>>
>>148473573
i'm with you I defiantly prefer a physical collection, though a do still have a kindle which I mostly use for trying LNs before a buy
>>
>>148473573
I can't stand it. I want to throw away all my books. I more or less already have, the only ones I've kept are my books on stock and some of my textbooks in my field of operation. I may have some fiction lying around, but I threw most of them out or gave them to my brother.

Hoarding stuff takes up a lot of space. It's really nice to get rid of all the garbage that clots up. I'm really going to try to not buy more garbage in the future, it's really a hassle when you've got to move.
>>
>>148473671
