Not my favourite but I find her endearing because of her flaws and how those affect her. She's a nice but socially awkward girl that feels overshadowed by several people and can't appreciate her own talents. She's her worst enemy when dealing with feelings because she can't manage them and when she gets brave enough she's cockblocked by the will of the universe.

I find Houki sympathetic and hope she finds the way to be happy with herself.

The writers failed to make her sympathetic to the audience. That's really it.

She not just Main Girl but is the secondary main character, she's the only person that complete's a Traditional "Hero's Journey" narrative but she is honestly a person nobody would wanna hang around with IRL.

Even her motivation for liking MC was because he paid her the most attention and she just wanted to selfishly hog MC's attention for herself. She liked MC because he pays attention to her and she covets his attention, not him, himself.
Even her speeches to get MC was based on the premise that he must "man-up" because it's pleasing to her to see like that. Nothing more.

She's a self-absorbed, narcissistic, attention whore until she gets her shit slapped for it ALL THE FUCKING WAY into ep12 but's far too late...

Houki hasn't learned how to properly express love because it's a foreign concept to her. Her sister never sees her, wasn't able to make any sort of meaningful relationship thanks to her secluded family life and the only thing she excels at is some old fashioned obsolete sport which makes her a weirdo. She likes Ichika because he's the first meaningful relationship she had and she got obsessed with the feeling. She's not solving her problems, instead she acts as if Ichika's love will make her issues go away. She needs to wake up from that and face life.

If we already got to the point of being friends as you say I would be concerned about him and willing to call him on his bullshit. We're friends so probably there are reasons why we enjoy hanging out with him.

Houki is a pretty average normal girl when Ichika or her family aren't involved. I understand people not preferring her but hating on Houki is kind of going overboard. Unless you're Ichika or try to discuss about her family chances are Houki will treat you like a normal person.
