I thought the characters were p.well written, and as in YYH the entire cast is actually likable or relate-able in some sense, has somewhat believable motivations, and interacts uniquely with one another. Last arc of the anime seemed very rushed, not sure what the manga version is like. In the chimera ant arc, I almost dropped the show at the fucking climax because of the awful narration. Up until that point the fights had been cool, but having every single second explained (ever so tediously) by a third party just didn't work. The pacing just fell apart in general sometime in the kurapika arc and never came back.

They were some of the best crafted chapters Togashi has done in his life, it just doesn't translate well to animation. The paneling, narration and the way it follows multiple stories at once, cuts to flashbacks etc worked so perfectly to convey the time dilution.

I can't speak for everyone, but personally I haven't watched/read it just because of the sheer time commitment it would be to get caught up.

what I hated the most about HxH is that they build up the idea that you have to work to get strong and your strength is all based on the amount of time you spent training and adults are almost always stronger than kids and etc etc. then the chimera ant arc comes along and you get asspull powerlevel creatures who were just born OP as shit for no reason
