I stopped reading around 20-30 chapters after Nagi's shitty arc. They're dragging the king's jewel and Loli Athena for too long the time I quit.

HnG is always an off and on thing or me. It can't be helped considering how many years of never-ending story that drags and drags the story goes through.

I'm skipping a bunch of it since I have a bad memory, but just from the most recent chapters:

Hayate finally has the king's jewels needed to get back into the royal garden (he needs to go there to ensure Nagi gets the inheritance), but he needs a burst of negative energy to open the gate. At the same time, Nagi is now more convinced than ever that Hayate is doing all this because he loves her (he doesn't), and is getting setup to get BTFO hard.

Also, Maria said that she's going to quit soon, and a few of the side characters (teacher, Izumi, Wataru/maid) have gotten what might be their conclusion chapters.

If you're looking to get back into it, I would recommend starting at the beginning of the previous arc (where he pays off the debt) at chapter 485.

The chapter for the teacher is 540, Izumi is 541, and Wataru/maid is 542-543. So far those are the only ones so far. Also, the chapter that Maria decides to quit is 537.

Actually, funnily enough, I just caught up on about 3 months worth of chapters tonight. Then I felt like coming to /a/ for the first time in a while and I see a HnG thread, something I almost never see.

With every side character getting their character arc finished up, it's promising that Hina still hasn't had her resolution yet, but I'd be really surprised if she won.

Hata's been hinting at Hayate leaving Nagi for a long time though. For example, this chapter is from way back around the end of the Ruka arc.

Combine this with the recent implication that the negative emotions from Nagi getting rejected will open a path to the royal garden, and I can't see them ending up together.

I still read it since I want a good conclusion to the "story" but honestly the gags have lost their novelty.
In the past the art felt good, the gags felt good for the most part and there were some real doki doki moments.

Now, 70% of the art is chibi shit, the gags are forced, and the plot doesn't make any fucking sense anymore.

Nagi's evil cousin, who was neither mentioned or foreshadowed at any point over the manga's history, hamfisted in to become the final boss instead of the existing implied villain who has been alluded to as working behind the scenes for the entirety of the manga but yet to be fully explained (Himegami).

Ruka has definitively lost, but Hata still has Hina's long awaited confession in his back pocket and, since he's wrapping up the story, it will undoubtedly be soon.

I'll grant you that the "serious" plot that Athena's arc started has always been a confusing clusterfuck.

The problem is, the series is bound to end after the final confrontation in the royal garden. Hayate has to reject Nagi before that. And, probably something will happen that will make Hayate realize, he cares about her and stuff.

To be honest, I really have no idea who he's ending up with. Both A-tan and Ruka have a good chance if he doesn't end up with Nagi. Also Hata might cave in to his fans and make him end up with Hina. And this is supposed to be Maria's arc, so she's also a wild card.
