Most everything has been either near or above what I was expecting or just bad.

The only thing that caught me off-guard was Bungou Stray Dogs S2 since the first season was kind of eh, but the first episode of the second season was pretty fantastic.

I liked Classicaloid and Keijo, they both were surprisingly enjoyable.

The Girlish number's MC is my favorite by far, the show itself is also really good.

Flip Flappers is overhyped, Hibike is on parking with expectations. Gi(a)rlish Number can out of nowhere and ended up being great fun. So that.

Yeah, definitely my surprise of the season, Girlish Number. It was funny and MC wasn't just a cynical bitch but actually a good stand-in for the critical viewer. I'm a bit wary after hearing that they censored the script though, but first episode was funny and engaging so I have no doubt it'll be at least one of the better shows this season if that holds up. It's like the Sore ga Seiyuu that I didn't know I wanted.

the problem seems that it doesn't want to be only comfy. I think it'll add in a lot of drama for the main guy and why he left the village to go to Tokyo. they did a quick flashback scene in first ep and it seems like he's going to 'fight his past.' Shounen Maid had the same problem of bringing up the boy's mom every episode to the point her ghost might as well have been a main character.

Don't know about Keijo either, I downloaded it after seeing people talk about it and decided not to watch it after skimming through the episode. You could see the bad scaling (lines that looked too thin or aliased due to digital processing).

thing is I'd much rather see a relatively realistic child-raising anime than this bad hybrid. Tsumugi to me never came across as a natural character like Yotsuba does in Yotsubato. Granted I'm comparing an animu to a manga there but I haven't seen an anime that is good at depicting a child. Barakamon was better at that than Amaama though.

I was dismayed by the cast change, but after the first two episodes I've come around. I like them as much or more than the original.

The original had really quirky character traits like a sword-wielding girl, a girl that can hit like a wrecking ball, or yakuza manager girl. Other than ghost girl, I think the rich girl trope, trailer trash trope, and non-native language speaker trope are more relatable. In particular it's interesting to see a trailer trash female in anime. Also, I can relate to MC-kun's family and bad dad jokes.

Did people actually think this was bad? I wasn't on /a/ much this past season, but it was one of my AOTSs. Tsumugi was one of my favorite lolis in a long time, absolute daughteru material. The relationship between her and her father was both cute and showed the real difficulties of parenthood, I though it was a great job overall, both comfy and hunger-inducing.

This season is full of surprises.
The shows I expected to be good or fun to watch turned out just like that or even better and there are also those shows I wasn't expecting anything but checked out because of /a/ and found them good.
Gi(a)rlish Number, Stella no Mahou, ClassicaLoid, To Be Hero, Takkyuu, Bernard-jou Iwaku, Watashi ga Motete Dousunda, Izetta were surprisingly good.
Keijo, Nanbaka and Trickster and other shows turned out not so shit as I expected. I wouldn't drop them on less busy season.
It has been a while since I watched this much.
Would probably drop half of them halfway in the season though.
