That's what resulted in the giant lull in the middle of the first season though, too much breathing, not enough action. If you want to tell a story about orphans being twisted by battle and hardship, then it's better to show them actually undergoing that hardship rather than having them talk about it for so long.

Gaelio had so much history and potential that it's very easy to see him being the masked man at this point.
