Realistically, somewhere in the 6-7 range. It did what it did pretty well, but it isn't by any means a masterpiece.

Given how generic it opens I'd be tempted to give it an 8/10. That's the best I imagined it could get when I started. Maybe the best of its genre, but still another by the numbers isekai show.

But that would be unfair to a show that repeatedly surprised me with clever twists and thrilled me with incredible action. This is a 9/10 show; hell, it probably deserves a 9.2 Just because Sword Art Online defined the genre with mediocrity doesn't mean we should assume every parallel universe anime will follow in its footsteps. Konosuba and Log Horizon were both good. Re Zero shows us that isekai can be great.

5-6/10, it's pretty middle of the line in terms of battle-harems. All of the female characters are pretty general tsun-archetypes with not a lot of development, MC is not as shit as most of isekai MCs, but he still has his asspull moments, with how weak he is supposed to be according to the show, there's no way he can pull of near-impossible feats in 3-4 loops. Becomes predictable about halfway through. Subaru, despite "suffering" always reverts back to normal at the end of an arc. Etc. etc.

Cons: Not memorable in any way whatsoever, author thinks that revealing a little more each loop makes the story evolve but it doesn't. The story viewed by anyone not-Subaru would feel like a bunch of suspicious coincidences moving in fast forward.

Great first few episodes, the mansion arc was eh, then it picked up a lot during 15-18, then it just went spiraling downhill with the Whale arc, then the ending was just really lackluster. Subaru being some action hero really doesn't make sense. It omitted crucial details that were present in the manga, but because there were no plans for a second season they will never be addressed. It would have made the show more interesting and not have a forced happy ending.

Started quite well, got weak in the middle. Episodes 14 to 18 were a chore to watch. 18 onwards were pretty good.

Worth the watch for the notable moments but it also deserves a lot of the flak it catches, and isekai ssssssuuuuuccckkkks

It's 8/10 at times and returns to zero at other times, so I'd prefer not to make am average as it doesn't deserve to be paired up with consistently average shows.

It excels at one thing and that is eliciting an emotional reaction from seeing subaru fail over and over again. This is the only thing that is truly unique about re:zero.

Other than that I guess I enjoyed some of the world building and the characters when they weren't being faggots.

Unfortunately the series just lacked any form of direction and while that might have been excusable as a 12 episode series, the people working on it should've given it more thought in terms of how they introduce certain plot threads if they knew they didn't have the cours and budget to develop them or at least lead them to good cutoff points for other seasons to pick up on.

If the entire things gets developed before I die then perhaps watching it back to back will make it better in regards to the narrative, but even then it feels really sloppy at some points.
