Just finished Shiki and I wish I hadn't passed it over when it was airing. Let's have a thread.
I thought it was pretty great overall even if the ending was a bit of a mess. I'm not surprised though given its massive cast of characters. I was completely hooked once the story got going though.I'm a little disappointed that the show didn't make me feel more sympathetic towards the Shiki, I was rooting for the Doctor and the rest of the humans all the way through. The Shiki really got what was coming to them.

nice review
>>148343797Well, it was a horror story; of course you were supposed to feel sympathetic towards the humans, not the monsters. That's why the series has a bad ending (bad as, the bad guy wins, not the ending being an unsatisfying one) with the loli vampire escaping, dooming some other town to suffer the same fate.

I suppose so.I did still see the whole thing as an overall victory despite the town being destroyed. The loli escaping didn't piss me off as much as the monk murdering a great character in order to save her. I really don't understand why he joined them and I was half expecting that he'd be involved in some kind of double-agent twist at the end.
Post yfw.
>>148344209Have you seen that film Let the right one in? It's something similar: an alienated person sympathized with an undead abomination after spending time with it and pitying over its situation. Yeah, it was very, very wrong, but it's understandable.

It's definitely understandable but I feel as though his situation could have been fleshed out a little better. The fact that he was basically defending the Shiki from the start seemed a bit unnatural to me.

The monk was constantly depressed and sucidal before he met the loli. You could say she gave him a reason to live.
>>148343797
Maybe it's the fucking pasta speaking, but does this look like some sort of bearded communist to anyone else?
>>148344878
Fair enough. It does seem like his desperation could have been shown a little more clearly thoughbecause he really didn't seem depressed enough to allow the eradication of the community that he had served and even to kill someone from it.

I didn't see it at first but yeah, it does look weirdly like Lenin.
Best Shiki. It's a shame she did fuck all before dying instantly.

I think the novel he wrote, with the two brothers that are supposed to be one character (him) explain his motivations.
The perfect brother is the person he tries to appear as and how people may see him. The brother that destroys everything he touches represents his inner desire. He actually hates his position and role in the village and wants to escape it (suicide attempt), he doesn't stop the Shikis because by destroying the village, they would free him.
And then there's his relationship with Sunako, they both feel forsaken by God (which is pretty ironic in is case considering he's a monk) and she's probably the first person that understand him.
This is all in contrast with the Doctor, who grew up in a very similar situation but ended up learning to love the village and his job while hating his parents for forcing him into the position to follow the family's tradition.

That makes a hell of a lot more sense.I hadn't considered that he might have secretly wanted to see the village destroyed.
I wish I had a loli to fuck for the rest of eternity.

I'm also pretty glad that Kaori and her brother both survive but watching her basically go mad out of fear was pretty painful. ;_;I didn't think they'd end up being my favorite characters when they first appeared though.

The way this guy dressed pissed me off
>>148349808
I liked it. His general stylishness certainly made him stand out at the very least.
>>148345137
He was cutting himself. It was pretty bad.
>>148346600

>watching shiki
>not reading shiki
newfag
Obligatory
THE HUMANS WERE IN THE WRONG. REMOVE HUMAN SCUM.
>>148350452
Well he went out to be a distraction knowing that he'd be killed so he probably wasn't as concerned as he otherwise might have been. I'm not sure how he could have survived a large blast from that close so it's fairly safe to say that he did die.

I'm sure the manga is great as well but the animation and music made for an absolutely fantastic anime. Does one really miss out on that much by not reading it?
>>148350521
>reading the manga
>not reading the original novel
