History 4 is a little weird. It's possible for there to be a Cell games there but the scenario would be extremely convoluted.

Timeline A is our timeline.

Everything is going well and dandy until jjust before Goku/Trunks/Vegeta go into the future for the first time. This is when the timeline splits and forms timeline B, which is where Black is originally from.

The only real explanation is that Toriyama didn't really think it out much and just added the timelines haphazardly. There's a bit of a paradox there too. If Trunks knows of Cell in the past then Trunks will kill Cell in the future. If Cell is killed in the future then he could have never went back in time. If he didn't go back in time Trunks wouldn't know of Cell and then die to Cell. Trunks dying to Cell would enable him to go back in time and meet the Trunks he killed who would then kill him in the future because Trunks knows of him.

For some reason he takes the blueprints in one timeline and deactivates his androids all the while leaving the past androids alive. It doesn't make any sense for him to do that. Future Cell will always exist in the past timelines with Future Trunks and what we watched during DBZ should play out. Unless there's some factor which made him act differently, but there's not. It's just inconsistent because Toriyama didn't think it through.

The only possible explanation is:

Whis Time Manipulation "failed" so, after rewinding time to prevent Gowasu getting killed, he created another timeline instead, so that Zamas that killed Gowasu became Black

The only thing I don't understand about the timeline fuckery is how Black was created without Trunks going back in time to inform Goku about Black. If Trunks goes back in time to warn about Black, then Beerus kills Zamasu in our present timeline, so Black had to have come from a timeline where Trunks didn't go back in time.

That means there has to be another way that Goku meet Zamasu that led to the same events, the biggest problem though is that the Goku that Black killed looked like he didn't know who Zamasu was. If he knew who he was this could have been explained with the "Zeno tournament" theory, yet they choose to go with the "Who are you?" shit. So why would Black want Goku's body if they never fought as seen that Goku didn't know who Zamasu was? This will probably never get answered in the anime because it's a plothole.

Now Cell is acting erratically for seemingly no reason. Timeline explanation as easy as I can manage it

ORIGINAL UNALTERED DBZ TIMELINE. Goku dies of a heart disease, androids rape the planet, Trunks goes back to the past and returns with the remote device to kill the androids. THIS CREATES TIMELINE 2. Trunks is later killed be Cell and gets his time machine stolen. Bulma dies old and alone wondering when the hell Trunks is gonna get back. This world is never mentioned again.

Created when Trunks returns to the past looking for a way to destroy the androids. Nothing is known about this timeline, but it's assumed/implied that it's parallel to Timeline 3. Trunks returns to the past, gets the remote device, LEAVES. We can only assume (but it seems highly unlikely as that would create another Cell unnecessarily) that Cell emerges, and the rest of the arc plays out the same except without Trunks.

This is the timeline we assume Zamasu gets his Goku body from, as it's the only other one where he's alive

THE TIMELINE WE OBSERVE. Created by Trunks' killing Frieza. Since Trunks made short work of Frieza we can assume that Gero never saw how truly powerful Goku is and therefore decided to awaken himself and 20 as he thought it'd be enough. This changes the personalities of 17 and 18 as they are released early, possibly interrupting the programming that made them completely evil in T1. Because of this, Krillin destroys the remote when he falls in love with 18 and blah blah blah.

FUTURE TRUNKS TIMELINE. The cursed world that is Trunks' punishment for traveling through time.
