As long as they don't change the source material any more than the current adaptation it would probably turn out a bit better.
My main gripe with it currently is that the animation/art has some serious QUALITY moments (pic related) and if KyoAni is good for anything, it's having consistently good animation and art.

It wouldn't. I like my favorite animu becasue it was made the way it was, changing studios would mean changing artstyles, direction, writing, etc. KyoAni are great (and I'm glad they picked up KnK) but I wouldn't want them to remake something that's already good, there's no point to it.

Kyoani tells simple stories well, with strong characterization and immaculate direction. Maybe you think that Hibike is boring because it doesn't have explosions or titties flopping around or ninja fight scenes or giant robots or whatever dumb "spectacle" you're into, but nobody could have done Hibike better. And that would all be fine, except that you insist on calling what Kyoani does "garbage" just because it doesn't fit into your subjective taste. The fact that you can't tell the difference is what makes you retarded.

Strong characterization doesn't necessarily mean the character is interesting, it just means that their character has a lot of presence and is distinct as themselves.

I'll give you an example from the supporting cast of Hibike, since that's what we're talking about. Hazuki is a great character. She's not super interesting, and she doesn't actually have a lot going on in the story, but she has very strong characterization. She's distinct because while she's cheerful and bold she doesn't slide into the genki archetype. One of her biggest character moments is when she admits she knowingly betrayed her friend, the MC. The way she immediately confesses to this, and the way she boldly pursues whatsisname and subsequently takes the rejection in stride makes her incredibly endearing. The result of all of these things is that she feels very rounded, even though she's not very important or complex. Characterization is about the culmination of these little moments, about the character being distinct in each individual scene they're in, about them feeling like they're their own person and that they have their own story.
