Someome wrote up a really interesting breakdown of the program Victor and Yuri does. Apparently its absolutely impossible in terms of actually doing it in real life. If scored it would be given a 88.79 and the current world record is 79.87. Remember, this is something Yuri pulls off at his home rink when he's out of shape and practice.

Not really getting all the hype. It's really fucking hard to do a high paced dynamic sport like ice skating justice in animation, and it shows. No matter how beautiful the highlights look, there's moments where it's made way too obvious that the background and the skater are animated separately, and it's really jarring and completely pulls me out.

And in terms of storytelling, it's really awkward to start everything out at the peak of a mid-career crisis, which we only understand after having it explained to us, only to have it resolved during the same episode, also in a way that the protagonist explains rather than shows. Both of those points are really defining for a character and deserves a lot of time to develop properly, but instead we just blaze through them so they can be used as setup for Yuri and Victor's relationship.

And all sudden jumps from a serious atmosphere to cartoony silliness just makes it feel erratic. A lot of anime does this, as a sort of play on expectations, and I rarely find it very funny, but in this show I'm finding it downright annoying.

Really struggling to see any reason to keep watching next week, other than the fact that I'll lose street cred with you guys.

See, I think this is gonna be the "Ping Pong" of this year, which sounds stupid I know, but I feel like we're gonna get a lot of overwhelming emotions from a lot of characters who are still developing that are all based around this single sport and how much they want to get better.

It seems wonderful. I love the skating scenes, the characters seem fun and endearing so far, the colors and backgrounds look great and mesh well. It's nice to have a show like this because it reminds me why I watch anime.

I honestly didn't expect the skating animation to be really fluid and detailed because it's a show not a movie. It's pretty to look at though and as long as it's not hideous, I don't really mind. I'm just worried they spent all their budget on the first episode.

The Victor/Yuri Cinderella story is really off-putting to me so far. I'm actually more interested in the "edgy Slav" which is kinda sad and weird even to me. Not to shit on Yurio, just saying he's already more interesting than the MC and Victor at this point in terms of what we know. Victor mainly caught my eye because of the hype surrounding him and I'm curious how he's going to be shown to be a "genius". Yuri is just boring underdog beta MC and I'm not that interested so far. I just hope he mans up more, him taking action to get out of his depression is a step in the right direction, but a lot of anime do that and then regress so we'll see if they can keep it up with his character.

That is interesting. I assume the choreographer was trying to make it really clear to those who aren't skating fans how good Victor is and make it as entertaining as possible. Figure skaters make it look so effortless and easy that a little exaggeration probably helps make that distinction between good and the best.
