I think it's some sort of "key" to the world. Why it is the way it is. I wouldn't be surprised if One Piece was releated to why the Grand Line exists in the first place since it's so unnatural

It might also reveal what happened to the Old Kingdom and why the Void Century needed to exist. My guess is the pre-WG did something terrible to stop the Old Kingdom which wasn't actually a force for good either.
