Well, even if he hates her more then Axmann, and is trying to do his best to kill her, Theo still thinks she has sexy lips.
Don't know how much of this is Theo's interjection, or is the narration's, but Beatrix is not very nice at all from these descriptions of her disregard for the general public.
Then again, when confronted about it, Beatrix takes the view that everyone is a dead man walking anyways. She does plan to sacrifice herself and the country, so what are a few more deaths on her shriveled conscience?

I'll give you another clue; (どうやったら、あの女に勝てる……!?)/(要怎样才能干掉那女人……!?) translates to "How do I kill/get rid of this woman...!?"
It's one of Theo's famous interjections that makes the text so unreliable.

She's a revolutionary at heart. She wonders why people tolerate this messed up system. Why they don't rise up. Why they fall for bread and circuses in Berlin.
>>148272384
Well, no. She understands obedience and loyalty perfectly well, even effectively using it to turn a bunch of traitors and criminals into complete fanatics for her (to the point that Schmidt was worried that she'd take the whole Werewolf battalion and a significant chunk of the stasi with her should she rebel). What she doesn't understand is how peoplelike Irisdina or Theocan betray their loved ones so willingly to monsters like Axmann. Disloyalty seems to be one of her peeves, even if she does use it as a tool to manipulate her enemies and doesn't place much value in general on human lives.
>>148272384
>She's a revolutionary at heart.
She never once rebeled against her father. Sure, she'll bemoan her cage and her general shit situation, but she won't really do much to fight it. Even in SM, she's a prisoner of the state, her own sins, and Jurgen's ghost.
>>148272780
>She never once rebeled against her father.
She rebelled once, the day he told her she had to join the Stasi. But nothing came from it. The only other time she is shown resisting authority is when she overthrew Schmidt. She has a tendency to fatalistically accept everything life throws at her, even if, like you said, she complains a lot about it.
>>148271262
>>148271646
She's a callous douchebag, but even Walther admits (or hopes) that she sees most of her actions as being for the greater good. I think she killed her morality as a coping mechanism for all the horrible shit she has to do. She shut her hear to everything except for a dead man. Everything else can go fuck itself for all she cares.

>>148272564
I highly doubt she faults Theo for breaking under the Stasi. Lise was exceptional in that she wouldn't break. She was unusual. But Irisdina is another story. But that's a more twisted, personal tale.
>>148274088
>She's a callous douchebag
Besides the point about living for a dead man, you're dead wrong and the worst person ever. You won't save anyone. She doesn't HAVE a coping mechanism, that's partly why she's so messed up. She never could develop one, because she could not simply bury her intense feelings away - so each action, each piece of dread she had since being a child, each day she wanted to cry, she can't just let it stop affecting her and "move on". She "copes", but it's not real. It just allows her to exist.
She's been wanting to live for most of her life. The blessed few she got to were the happiest years she had ever, and afterwards, knew after, that she'd ever have.
>>148272780
You have to put yourself into her life. It's no wonder everything looks so hopeless and unwinnable. It's not that she doesn't try, it's that she tried so many times, only to feel the cut of despair and failure each time. From the time her beloved mother died until she met Jurgen, her life was nothing but failure. In a life like that, it takes true strength to still pick yourself up and try again, which Beatrix does. Even when she lost the very thing that gave her life again, she still does. Till the very end, she picks herself up, again and again, wishing to give purpose to the better day.
She should be beloved and admired for her bravery! Beloved!

>>148285095
As far as both physical and psychological torture goes she's above and beyond anyone else in SM itself. Unfortunately she became more and more dependent on Theo to cope which is like trying to roller skate on marbles and hoping to stay up. He's pretty useless in that regard, she has a route so we'll see how things go. Its possible for a happy end, having them elope to the west would be a fitting way to bring things full circle for the two of them.
>>148285180

Besides theres a big difference between seeing some shit and being through some shit. You know who also saw some shit? Katia. Who went through that shit? Vivi.
>>148285452
I'm just making conversation, faggot. Besides, you and me both know Irisdina prefers to be in the suck with her soldiers, rather than Katia who hesitates when action is most needed.
>>148285522
I mean, you got your conversation right there, right? Whats the problem? If you can call leading a tsf squad "being in the suck with her soldiers". Better than being on the frontlines with an AK-47 and being fodder for said tsf squad to sacrifice.
>>148285337
Well, dependence isn't necessarily a bad thing, though if she goes the way of, lets say, Sora, she'll end up a serious yandere, and probably kill any woman Theo looks at wrong
>>148285666
Better until you remember the average life expectancy for a pilot is 8 minutes.
>>148285806
Possibly, and its always refreshing to see a yandere who has a reasonable explanation for being the way they are. That all depends on if Lise doesn't get any psychological care to help repair some of the damage Axmann purposefully caused in order to readjust her to a completely ordinary life again.
She can behave normal and can continue to be as long as she has Theo to take care of her but the damage is there, though she shouldn't get any worse let alone like you described so long as he doesn't first abandon her. If they do get to be together again and have a normal life any yandere tendencies in Lise would cease for the most part, she won't be attacking other girls for the sake of it, she even joked about Theo's "harem" back when it came up. Put her in a more stable environment and you should see a change for the better.

If anyone deserves a change for the better, it's definately Lise. >>148287119
I don't even know what you're point is supposed to be. Are you saying you'd rather be in Vivi's shoes than a pilots? or any of the other grunts at the beginning of the first SM VN? Sure why not knock yourself out but I suppose you're technically right, everyone is ultimately doomed either way. If you're trying to say Iris herself had it worse than the grunts or most of the other pilots, however, you're objectively wrong. Strawmanning me isn't gonna work.
>>148287204
>spoiler
Thats not sadistic thats normal, unless it makes you happy to think about that happening. And its inevitable, that kind of trauma doesn't go away overnight. Those scars will probably haunt her for the rest of her life.
I agree though, healing is the best.
>>148287393
>I don't even know what you're point is supposed to be.
i threw up irisdina's name because as far as i know not a whole lot is said about poland (call me a retard if im wrong, i think the most in depth part was sylwia's story). more fluff is always nice. if i had a point it'd be that iris suffered, i'm not claiming to a point to be comparable to lise, but again i was just throwing things around. then you come around and throw katia and vivi into the mix when neither were around in poland, and to be honest, i don't know a whole lot about vivi other than she's a sgt and she was chilling out in that fort before it was overrun.
>Are you saying you'd rather be in Vivi's shoes than a pilots?
i was saying being an eishi and being a grunt both suck. if i was a pilot, i'd probably get ganked within 8 minutes. if i was a grunt, i'd probably desert before trying to wage a war of attrition against the BETA, unless i was a tanker or artilleryman.
>If you're trying to say Iris herself had it worse than the grunts or most of the other pilots, however, you're objectively wrong.
i was raising the point that some crazy shit happened in poland. plus she regularly runs suicide missions with the 666th on the BETA, which would be pretty stressful on you and the people you work with.
>Strawmanning me isn't gonna work.
a strawman is when an opponent misrepresents your argument. the original topic was on suffering, and i offered iris as a point to be considered. you then make an argument through semantics when i said "see some shit", when we both know that objectively iris has been through shit. unless you are inferring that iris has not been through shit.
i don't doubt that vivi has a shitty life, and shittier death. i wasn't really talking about her at the start, though.
>>148287847
>i don't know a whole lot about vivi other than she's a sgt and she was chilling out in that fort before it was overrun.
Thats pretty much it, everyone around her kept dying so she got promoted despite being a 15 year old girl. The fort was their last stand and they were undermanned and undersupplied, Pham and Katia show up and evacuating the two pilots becomes a priority. Then Stasi show up, BETA push the attack at the same time, Vivi escorts Katia away from danger and gets chomped in the process.
I never said Iris hasn't been through shit, they all have. But that using her is a weird choice of an example of suffering when you can find worse scenarios in a majority of the rest of the cast. If you were talking about what happened in Poland I'd figure you'd bring up Sylwia since she also went through more shit than Iris in that particular case.
>>148288463
Kurt is the same age as Theo and is a MSgt. Really makes Theo look kind of pathetic in comparison.
>>148288463

Glad you could make it, Theo.
Watch your tone with me, Lise. You may be the best imouto, but I'm still your superior as an older brother.
As if I could forget. Listen, Theo, there's something about the anime you should know. Oh no. It's too late. These people have all been infected. They may look fine now, but it's a matter of time before they turn into the animeonlies.
What?
The entire anime must be purged.
How can you even say that? There's got to be some other way.
Damn it Theo, as your future wife, I order you to purge these animeonlies.
You are not my wife yet, girl. Nor would I obey that command if you were!
Then I must consider this an act of sacrilege upon imoutos.
Sacrilege? Have you lost your mind, Lise?
Have I? 2nd Lieutenant Theo, by right of imouto's and the trust of brothers among the world, I hereby temporary relinquish you from your status as an onii-chan and suspend your 666th from service.
Lise, you can't just...
It's done! Those of you who have the will to save this series, follow me. The rest of you... get out of my sight.
You've just crossed a terrible threshold, Lise.
If the average newly trained TSF pilot in his first battle has a life expectancy of 8 min.
Then what is the average life expectancy for a newly trained rifleman, tanker or helicopter pilot?
30 seconds? 2 minutes? 5 minutes?
>>148289139
Don't think it's ever explicitly stated. All I remember is that tank crews have slower replacement rates as compared to pilots.
>>148289005
I would follow Lise on a purge of the anime to make imoutos great again
So Iris almost tells Theo about her history with Beatrix, but Theo purposely changes subjects. He thinks that it would hurt her heart too much to talk about that evil woman, and though he is curious, he decides that he's better off not knowing the truth.

Not really. Even when they aged him down from a slimy old man to a slimy young man I feel they just made him worse, its just so disingenuous. Theres really nothing that can make up for the misery he lives for causing. On the one hand its not as if there aren't really people who are that hateable so points for technical realism. On the other it doesn't make for a very good character when its just that unpleasant to see him still breathing.
>>148293257
That's pretty funny and totally changes the tone of her death. Guys, I think that Hiroki actually meant for Theo to be badass in the finale with the way it played out. I wish they would have kept this in the anime.

>I got the first Schwarzesmarken Blu-Ray disc in a while back, and I was surprised and pleased to find that each disc will come with a booklet with notes from author Hiroki Uchida on each episode. One interesting thing that Uchida reveals in the notes for episode 2 is that, during the script meetings for the anime, he and director Tetsuya Watanabe had a long discussion about the scene where Irisdina executes her brother Jurgen. This was right about the time that Uchida was about to start writing Bernhard im Schatten, a Schwarzesmarken prequel story focusing on Irisdina, Beatrix, and Jurgen, and Uchida mentions that the discussion they had helped shape the story he was about to write. In episode 12, you can clearly see how this discussion also influenced the anime, as it is packed with references to the relationship between the three characters. Almost none of these references existed in the original novel (in fact, I don’t think Jurgen even had a name at the time – he was just “Irisdina’s brother”). These references especially help shed light on Beatrix’s state of mind, suggesting that she believes, in her own way, that she is carrying on Jurgen’s will in helping to save the world. These new additions, along with her much more sympathetic portrayal in Bernhard im Schatten, help to make Beatrix a much more rounded character – she’s kind of a one-note villain in the original novels.

>>148305261
One of the big issues I had with SM was how flat and lifeless everything was. TE had way more QUALITY, but there was a certain amount of texture and vibrancy to it. Doing these shoops just highlights these differences to me.
>>148306870
>One of the big issues I had with SM was how flat and lifeless everything was.
I think that was an artistic choice by Watanabe. If you look at the backgrounds for the VN, you can see actual colors.
>>148306963
The LN had vibrant characters and dull backgrounds. There was far better use of lighting though. Nothing really looked "washed out" like the anime.
>>148306870
Yeah, you were right. Those eyebrows definitely do not go with that smile.
>>148306963
It's not just colors. Just compare the shading or facial features in TE to SM.
>>148307234
I want to compare what Iris and Beato look like after giving them facials.
>>148306870
>>148306963
That's the thing you really noticed in SM's animation. It's like there was an extreme use of smudging, and washing out lighting and colors. Even in places where it should stand out, like outside when it's sunny. TE's stuff just, well, stands out more. It pops at you.
Also, they fixed a lot of the QUALITY in the BD releases, whereas it's kind of hard to tell what the SM BD's really did to fix anything.
>>148308330
I think with SM, they sacrificed good looking, detailed designs for consistency. TE had details like lips, gloss, and shading too them to create texture, while SM goes completely flat. It's easier to animate and looks better in motion overall, so it's kind of unfair to compare the two using pictures.
Still, I could tell the aneurysms that Beatrix's design alone created for the animation team.
>>148308787
Well it's Liden, so they had aneurysms just animating in general.
>>148308839
Yeah, but Beatrix was the worst. Her design just doesn't transition well into the anime's flat pallete. Her lips alone would require a lot of detail work to animate them properly. It's why she looks so shitty in many of her scenes. Other characters, like Lise, Pham, and Sylwia, made the jump pretty well in comparison.
>>148308787
Why does Theo always imagine her "red lips" when describing or thinking about her.
>>148309121
Because she really turns him on.
>>148309121

She's right, what the DDR needs isn't the power being given the people, it needs the power to be centralized under a competent leadership. Think monarchies that are just beginning their divine right to rule, and while they do go bad almost everytime after a generation or two, the DDR doesn't need to stand under a "dictatorship" that long to deteriorate like that. With the Werewolves skills and the Wests ammunition, the DDR could have provided a solid defense line for the rest of Europe.
Keep in mind it isn't just lives when we talk about the fall of Europe, that's tens of thousands of acres of farmland, trillions in industry, and countless other factors that are lost.
Democracy = rule-by-media

>>148312718
Well you know, even Democratic societies suspend freedoms and centralize powers when they're fighting in serious wars. Just look at how any of the Allies stepped in and took control of resource production and distribution during WWII, or how concepts like habeas corpus fly out the window. Furthermore, conscription itself is a very authoritarian concept that is practiced by democratic regimes when things get bad.
The ironic thing about Katia's talk of freedom is that many of the Western societies she looked up to had already began turning themselves into armed camps in the face of the BETA. The West was quite alright dealing with Beatrix, and even sent a security minister to inspect/help her out if the spoilers are correct.
>>148313020

Absolutely, but Katia's "ideals" coming into "power" means that it'll be in very poor taste to start suspending freedoms and centralize the powers. That would be just too Stasi-like, no?

Media is just another means for the elite to manipulate the masses.
Democracies work for the most part. They're terrible, but every other system is worst. Giving the insulated elite more power is not the answer, especially when they're the ones who are shitting up and subverting our democratic process to begin with. Elites, especially when insulated (as in, don't have any skin in the game), will abuse and fuck out the lower classes if they can establish absolute control (you could argue that the US is transitioning into an oligarchy or plutocracy resulting in our current shit situation). It's why the more hierarchical and stratified a society is, the more warlike it is too (what do I care if half the surplus population dies, I want my new summer palace on that piece of land). Democracies tend towards pacifism, because who seriously wants to vote to go to war for that prick's new summer palace?
All that said, wartime (and not these pussy ass engagement we have today) is a completely different story, and I find myself agreeing with Iris or Beatrix on how their government should be restructured.

In general, if they feel like they've got power, they go on the offensive. You could look at the way Europe acted for most of its history after the fall of Rome for how monarchies behave when they can.
In general, democracies tend to be less warlike for a number of factors, such as:
>Leaders are forced to accept culpability for war losses to a voting public;
>Publicly accountable statespeople are more inclined to establish diplomatic institutions for resolving international tensions;
>less inclined to view countries with adjacent policy and governing doctrine as hostile;
>tend to possess greater public wealth than other states, and therefore eschew war to preserve infrastructure and resources.
>>148314048
You had mere there until you started going on about monarchies. Monarchy historically has been just as unstable if not moreso than republics. La Serenìsima Repùblica for example lasted pretty much a thousand years, whereas even having the same ruling dynasty two hundred years forward in an average kingdom was unlikely, especially the more powerful the realm as a whole was. Kings and Emperors did not have absolute power. And even in the later centuries, stability in even long reigning monarchs' kingdoms was a tight balance act. That's before one even factors the inevitable, constant crises of succession. Much of Europe was plunged into war thanks to a baby pushed out a special twat who was set to inherit and unite both the kingdoms of Spain and France.

Democracies are not peaceful by and large either. They can be, but it is not inherent in their nature. Our current peace between democracies is because they are tied to each other through alliances and similar beliefs and worldviews and aspirations. They are more warlike, since the passions that drive a nation towards war are not only felt by all of strata in a country, but those strata have political power, and thus will glady vote for war. We've seen this since the very beginning of democracy. The Delian League ended up being literally an Athenian democratic empire, it's freedoms forced on conquered states. Similarly, the Roman republic, even with a franchise limited to the patricians, fought wildly popular wars and had formed the pre-basis of one of the greatest empires of all time - and it was not the democracy that led Rome to fall into monarchy. There's various examples besides, but we even have the modern day America. What is it besides a democratic crusader empire? People around the world may disagree with it's methods, but America over the centuries has demonstrated again and again it will do ANYTHING to ensure freedom lasts. ML America isn't an aberration.

Oh shit I remember this. I wonder, no one ever says in spoilers what happens to Anette after everything goes down.
>>148315000
To be fair about Rome, the majority of the wars it fought was because some ally got attacked (or declared war). They always framed their wars as defensive or even preemptive wars to their citizens, especially after the Gauls sacked Rome, or the Carthaginians invaded Italy. Romans in the Republican period were not fans of "unjust" or aggressive wars. Now, some wars were accidents, and some wars were manipulated by a consul who wanted to get rich, but for the most part, the Romans never saw themselves as expansionist and took pride in how their republic was more enlightened then the surrounding monarchies. Towards the end of the Republic, when the rot and corruption really set in, things like Caesar's rampage through Gaul was seen as a very good thing by the plebs (while the Senate tried to reel him in).

pretty much this
>>148339408
second part
◇ ◇ ◇

I find her pretty sympathetic, it's just the narrative and characters within don't. They treat her like a monster who's doing what she does for no reason, and her death is celebrated by everyone left in story. Theo even insults and blows her off with a cheesy one liner as she dies. The only person who may sympathize with Beatrix is Iris, but she doesn't want to speak on the matter until the final chapter, and Theo shuts her up because he's afraid that it would be "too much for her heart."

>>148356647
Some guy on /m/ was saying that she's sucks at TSF combat and only really fucks up people by using underhanded tactics like human shields and shit:
>They don't do it in the LN. It's very clearly Beatrix causing most of the civilian causalities while the 666th pull their punches. She's actually a pretty pathetic pilot compared to the anime version. She fires at a crowd of civillians to draw Sylwia out and then shoots her while she's shielding them, then draws Annete and Theo into a residential area knowing that they'll pull their punches as she goes all out on them. When her opponent goes all out, she loses badly. Walther fucks her up despite have an old ass MiG-21, and once Theo decides enough is enough, she gets a knife through her stomach. She's basically a big bully using fear and fucked up tactics to achieve victory.
I don't really believe all of that, but it does make me rethink her whole "ace pilot" status.
>>148356768
that's really weird because the ln text says she fights for a week straight because schmidt keeps sending her out and her machine becomes heavily damaged
after that she still fights theo and anette in a 2v1, walther and sylwia etc. but yeah you're right she's not an ace pilot. nope. let's just believe guys on /m/ who quote things out of context and interpret them like they are the same as the anime

>>148357243

>>148356768
>Some guy on /m/
>>148356768
Look laddo, some on /m/ hate Beatrix and have no idea what they're talking about. Besides using tactics smartly, we already know she spends a fucking week straight during the rebellion fighting. As in she barely gets any shut eye type of constant fighting. And as said, she takes on 2vs1 routinely. And even by her last fight with Theo, where her machine is a barely flying pile of junk that doesn't even have an arm, where she hasn't slept properly in a week and is dirty as fuck, where she has absolutely no support, she still pushes Theo to his limit. That's not saying Theo is bad by any stretch, it's a remark of just how talented she is.
She's one of the best pilots the ML world produced.

This could work.
>>148359545
How many issues of Muv Luv magazine are there? I mean there was also the oneesan edition.

Not a whole lot.

Why is she shaking?
>>148361354
Why didn't Theo pull out after nutting in her?
>>148361417
Because that's a crime
>>148361417
Even King Arthur couldn't pull that sword out of that stone.
>>148361463
Listen. Strange women lying in broken mechs distributing "trust" is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
I'm gonna kidnap this cute little cunny bunny andgive her a better life

>"Resistance is futile... Onii-chan"
>>148360864
Borg-Lise indeed.
I want to hand-bra Irisdina's twins so she doesn't need to carry that weight!
>>148361463
Not going to lie, I thought Beatrix's death was hilarious.
>>148360920
>Shalon aim
Godammit. Still, is nice. But that don't look like GKs style.
>>148361417
She's the kind of girl you want to put a ring on and birth your twenty children. Theo had boo choice.
where do you start to get into this
>>148363735
Irisdina's was way funnier, and she didn't even have to make crazy faces.

This one made me chuckle a bit. Sorry.

>>148369463
Having a family that loves her, getting even with Irisdina, new Bullying methods that don't work in real life, etc.
>>148369579
Well, she's probably lonely, and can't help but look at what people like Walther and Sylwia have and feel just a tinge jealous, even as she's genuinely happy for them.
Pham doesn't have adeadprince charming.
>>148369624but no Jurgen or nightmares?
>>148366665
Maybe Marui will do a follow up for the first one and continue where it left off.

Either they're fake or they grow on her head.
>>148369785
>>148369802
Makes sense. The Stasi never remove the flowers for whatever reason, and what do they show when Pham dies; her flowers being broken.
Perhaps the flowers aren't just mere accessories. Ever consider that perhaps Pham is the flowers, and the Vietnamese girl we see below merely an accessory that Pham decorates herself with?
>>148369968
her flowers are a parasitic organism that took control over her body and brainz. Lise freed her by blowing her up.
>>148370040
>>148369968The flowers were BETA all along!
>giving teen Iris a new tea shop address
>it's actually a creepy abandoned building/morgue/something like that
How pissed off would she be if she falls for that?
>>148370105
She'd be scared. So would Beatrix too, because she'd likely get dragged along.
Beatrix might enjoy it. She was pretty emo as a teenager.
>>148369645
This is part of what hurts about SM so much. She gives all, and she dies having nothing. She gave and gave, and would have given until she had but her life to give. And she'd then give that too, to put a smile of the faces of the future.
>>148369968
Just because Pham is an alarune doesn't mean she doesn't love.
Which girl would you bully until she has an emotional breakdown and repeatedly calls you annoying?
>>148370815
Well, I always wanted my bodily fluids smeared all over Beatrix's beautiful face, so I'll go with her.
>>148370815
Iris becasuse she'll have a stoic, at best slightly hateful face, and shrug it off. I'll be happy knowing she's crying about it later at night,
>>148370815
We'd only make it to bully until she has an emotional breakdown.
>>148369444
Why are you so evil? Either way, won't happen. Pham is the type who will never let you go.
>>148371337
Good luck finding me in America
>>148371337
Which SMs would leglock and which ones wouldn't?
>>148371421
Pham is a definite leg locker, part perviness and part love.
Anette wasn't, but by the end, would be a leglocker. She wants to desperately hold whoever is there, so they don't leave her, and face the darkness all alone.Beatrix would definitely have been a leglocker. For largely the same reasons.
>>148371381
She's in Germany. She has the resources to find you.
>>148371751
East Germans are poor and she's a gook
