My takeaway: Walled People are good, King Fritz is good but a pussy, Grisha is insane but justified, Mares are bad, BRA are evil but not through any fault of their own, Zeke knew the truth BRA didn't and is a true villain.

The Reiss didn't want to fight when attacked, Grisha did. It's easy to paint him as the bad guy here, but given the situation, it's not possible to just ask for peace and wait behind the walls. The Mares are the ones on the offensive and the walled people need to retaliate before the next wave of shifters is sent in, as they have six left.

The Mares first plan was to send warriors to the walls without angering King Fritz.
Smashing down the walls would obviously anger him, so they would have tried some stealth operation first.
This Mare plan first happened at least 20 years ago.
A warrior probably got sent to inside the walls long before BRA got there. BRA smashing the walls was probably because the original warrior sent in failed his stealth mission.

So Ymir made a deal with the "devil" to gain the shifter ability and made (?) 9 shifters to help annihilate take control of the Mares. Eventually the Mares gained control of 7 of them to defeat the Elodians and they became enslaved. So King Fritz left to Paradise with a group of people and created the walls to be controlled by the Titans instead of the Mares. And now the Mares are attacking because of fossil fuels and because they believed that they would attack them soon.

Is that about right?
