The current trend of (relatively) slow fansubbing (taking several days to release stuff), which is how we ended up doing Ajin S1, was pretty much the last straw in killing my interest in fansubbing (and it had felt pretty damn stale for a good while even beforehand).
So for the time being, I'm pretty much done with fansubbing. It would take coming up with something new plus finding motivated staff to work at things at a brisk pace to make me want to come back, and right now there's basically neither.

Well, it's more that pretty much everyone seems content to kick back and procrastinate when it comes to fansubbing, which is why releases end up taking days. And it's just so boring. Having a motivated team working together in an efficient manner to put out releases in a matter of hours was in itself pretty exciting and rewarding, but it's hard to make that happen nowadays when no-one else seems particularly interested.
And you can't really blame the people for wanting to take it easy either - after all, they're not getting paid, and swift pace requires pretty serious weekly commitment, and in the end you're usually not going to beat the simulcast rips in speed anyway.

Forgive my ignorance here, but surely when you're subbing a show like Ajin which faces a possible 3 month wait for subs (Unlikely but lets just say for the sake of this scenario), Since you're not racing to beat simulcasts isn't racing to beat them irrelevant? There is value even to slower subbing to it when there's no real simulcast, sure, but it doesn't change the fact that slowsubbing is just so boring, and even without that fansubbing itself has gotten quite stale for me, leaving me in a situation where I just don't really get any enjoyment out of it at this point. In fact, it was pretty much actively killing my enjoyment of anime in general.
In the end it was a pretty easy decision to dedicate my free time to something else instead. I might still come back to it some day assuming that legal options continue to wallow in the sea of mediocrity they've been in for years, but once again it would take coming up with something new (I have some ideas in this regard but they would require a good amount of development work in itself to turn into reality) and having staff that's actually interested in working at a decent pace before I'd really want to dive back in.

How easy is it to get into fansubbing? I understand that there are other roles than TL and encoding but are they just as complex?

I thought that too for a while but when I started thinking about it more. I realized he's more of a guy who come off as an asshole. He thinks rationally and puts himself first to survive but then he also wants to try helping people. I really like his character (im just following the anime right now) and I want to see his character development. I just binged S1 several weeks ago and I cant wait for the new episodes.

Well, the existence of simulcasts has pretty much lead into the situation as we have it. Fan translators availability is low because there's simply not much active demand for it, and subbers end up procrastinating because most of the time you can't beat simulcasts in time to release anyway.
But fansubs haven't been completely killed off because the legal options are still lacking in terms of technical quality at the very least, and it's unlikely to improve anytime soon because the legal players simply have no real incentives to do anything about it. If they actually did consistently beat fansubs in all areas (and they definitely could if they cared about it), I'd have no issues with fansubs dying completely, because at that point they'd simply become basically unnecessary. But that world is sadly not much more than a pipe dream.

And this also kills it for me, I like to watch good encodes enough to make me wait for proper subs but sometimes it's just too much, I mean Vivid just ended the Ushinawareta Mirai BDs that started airing on October 2014 a few days ago (at least they didn't drop it), sometimes not even popular anime get a proper release (see MP100) and it's just sad.
Wish there were people who did BD releases of series that need it, but I guess that's too much to ask, specially since they'd get half the thanks than they would by being a normal sub group.
