The fathers are only as good as the person writing them. Kishi was probably writing his manga way more than spending time with his kids.

That is why there isn't a single decent alive father in Naruto. Minato definitely could have lived but he committed suicide because Kushina was dying and he'd rather screw over his infant son for life than to be a father figure. Jiraiya was a shitty godfather who stole Naruto's money and abandoned him his entire childhood. Naruto always lived in a shitty apartment to care of himself despite Iruka occasionally treating him to ramen. Even Iruka got increasingly more irrelevant as the manga went on.

InoShikaCho have the closest thing to decent parents but they were pretty irrelevant.

Never in the whole series a Hokage was shown having so much paperwork and work in general that they need a gorillion clones to get shit done

But Naruto becomes Hokage and all that work appears out of nowhere

Naruto never knew what what a family has and knows how not having parents fucks you up so by simple logic he would do his utmost best to not let his children even feel a quarter of the loneliness and abandonment he felt

But now he feels he gotta do all the work all by himself and despite being able to have a clone in every household he feels like he has to have his real self doing even more paperwork even on her damn daughter birthday

Moral of the story is that they're both fuck ups, they're both awkward around each other, keep doing things wrong and make the wrong choice even when they're trying to do the right thing, but they're both trying. At the end of the story they finally reconnected, and they're alright again.

Its a movie that's meant to mean different things based on what age you are when you see it. You'll find one side more relatable depending on that factor. If you think the story was about one of them being a shit and the other was great, your bias is covering you up.

Shikamaru telling Naruto to go home already when he passed out shows nothing was forcing him to stay in the office. He's a new Hokage, its an adjustment period, so he was overcompensating. His actions were wrong but understandable, just like Borto's actions later on in the movie.

Naruto is taking care of the entire village. While he should learn to delegate more as this goes on and not overwork himself, maybe go home instead of forcing it. He'll also get better at the paperwork eventually, but its an inbetween phase for all of them.
