They say that alchemy is based on equivalent exchange. And that to receive, something of equal or greater value must be lost.

So when alchemist's like roy use alchemy or for example, Alphonse fixing the radio in Liore, what are they exchanging?

I assume for Roy he uses the particles in the air to make flames or some pseudo science bullcrap. And for Al I think he just stretches out the resources he has from to broken radio to make it work, like how Ed repairs his armor.
