I really enjoyed Log Horizon but holy fuck I hated the kids, why the fuck did they waste so many episodes on them? Especially in Season 2. There were so many other things going on with the main cast but we wasted a good amount of episodes with the annoying kids, I fucking hate them and they have no place in the story, I hope they die.

I think the main issue with season 2 was the staff's fucked up priorities.

The first two arcs are the closest to the ln, but even there they cut world building scenes and replaced them with more Akatsuki angst. Then, there's an episode where they attempted to fit in an entire ln because the main cast wasn't in it. There's several filler scenes in the middle episodes and even an episode based mostly on a manga chapte.

Poor pacing compounded with poor animation. Some big moments were very lackluster, and Kanami, Go East was squished into a single episode that took five minutes to make a frame for the story so we really only got about 16 minutes for an entire volume. The raid and the Akiba murder mystery needed to be paced better. There didn't feel like there was any tension and I felt that William's speech turned what was a nice scene in the LN to a long slog. It took like 10 minutes, didn't it?

I'm still mad that they spent like 5 episodes on Akatsuki angsting about teachings, gave the kids twice as much time as their storyline deserved, and spent whole episodes on things like speeches that don't have any real plot significance, and then compress all of Kanami's party's stuff into a single incredibly rushed episode that covered maybe half of the material they could have.
Most of the issues with Season 2's pacing would have been fixed by cutting an episode from Akatsuki's shit and the kids and giving them to Kanami. Kanami's party a best.

I didn't hate season 2, but it really didn't live up to its potential. The animation quality didn't help, but it wasn't the only nail its coffin or anything.
