If the staff is anything to go by Flip Flappers could easily be a new Space Dandy. While Yuri's first episode was very well done there is literally no way they can keep that up, there will most likely be a lot of throwaway SoL episodes with barely anything noteworthy going on. Ufo looks mainly great because of the cinematography than actual animation. Sure it's well done, but aside from the very subdued and beautiful chara animation and instruments it's nothing that's outstanding.

Oshiyama is directing it. The guy whose name I can't remember right now that did most of the animation on Mob, Shinekai Yori, Death Parade, and a lot of very impressive scenes in Kimi no Uso is doing lead animation. Studio Pablo is painting the backgrounds. Toshiyuki Inoue and Kenichi Yoshida are heavily involved with the first episode and a fuckton of prestigious animators are constantly talking about it. Mitsu Iso is working on it too in some capacity.

Alright, to be honest it was way less impressive with subs than what I expected after the stream. The dialogue was so shallow you didn't really need to know what they were saying.

Also, I understand that they were trying to highlight the whimsical fairy tale atmosphere and the story isn't that important but I think the scene transitions felt too disjointed for their own good. The animation was great but by itself it's not "great enough" to sustain a whole fucking show.

3 ep rule it is, but if I drop it I'll probably check the threads for webms so I have nothing to lose here.

I liked that they took time in the episode for Cocona and Papika to, y'know, hang out. Play in the snow and build a fort. Instead of just "crazy things are happening to the MC and we won't explain any of it: the episode!".

So it had a good balance of teasing the overall plot while introducing us properly to the main characters. I think it was actually quite a good 1st episode.

Most anime flub their middles and ends though, so who knows if it'll keep being good.

Yeah really all you can say story wise at this point is nothing was wrong with it and it achieved what it set out to fairly well. It was fun and entertaining. The episode was over in no time. Not one of those shows where you move your mouse to see how long is left because it feels like ages has passed but one of those shows where you are like, "wait that is it finished? I just wanted the conversations to be a bit lengthier that just "Wow! Cocona! Pretty! Adventure!" Honestly I'm not asking for too much plot-wise so that's a minor complaint, but it did help make the episode feel a lot more disjointed.

The first ep is just meant to be a fun adventure that hopefully gets us a little interested in watching the rest of the show. There were a ton of future plot points hinted at, so I'm thinking they'll cover those eventually.

Honestly if there had been some deep conversation right at the first episode it might have turned me off.
