Asuka is the best character. She has a heart of gold and all she wants is a friend, but everyone rebuffs her.
No father at all
Her mother ignores her for a phony doll and tries to kill her
On her first encounter with Rei she asks to be besties so they can talk about robots and boys, but cold cruel Rei can't think of anyone besides herself and says no.
Misato invites Shinji into her house out of kindness but only offers it to Asuka out of mission requirements. She cries over Shinji when he comes back to life or whatever, but does she care when asuka falters? No, she just calls her a bitch and fires her.
Kaji doesn't bang her after she offers herself to him completely, and remember, there are less taboos around pedophilia in Evangelion universe because of the drastically reduced population. And Asuka is a savant, well ahead of her years.
Shinji won't pay attention to her, or even hold her when she kisses him.
And through all this, she still does her job and tries to be friends with others. She invites Rei to dinner, she saves Shinji and waits for him when he is in the hospital.
Who waits for Asuka in the hospital?
All she wanted was a friend and she poured her little heart out to get it, but no one would pay her any heed.
And who looks for Asuka when she is gone? Shinji couldn't go a day and a half without some nerv lackeys finding him.
Asuka is gone for a week, and when they finally bother to track her down, no one checks on her.
>bitch believes in karma
Serves her right.
Can't live in reality.
Doesn't deserve to live.
You make good points but you forget to mention she's part of the hedgehog's dilemma, she's an abrasive bitch to everyone to avoid them causing her pain.
The kiss was her trying to get some affection from the closest thing to a boyfriend she's got. She pushes him away immediately to stop them forming any kind of connection.
Also she lost out on some of that kaji dick and probably wanted a consolation prize.
Misato did seem to be after some young cock, seriously shinji is a total pimp without even trying
She struggles with her interpersonal relationships, as does everyone. It is one of the major themes of the show, that people hurt each other. As for the kissu scene; she knows Misato is with Kaiji and that he has zero interest in her, even when she offered herself to him completely. So she settles for the next best source of male attention she has. She kisses Shinji basically because she doesn't get why this boy doesn't make a move on her. She is a gorgeous girl and is probably used to constantly being hit on. But this guy, who she is living with, doesn't show any interest at all, and that despite their shared situation and how they can only really relate to each other due to their unique circumstances. No one else can really understand the pain and weight of piloting the EVAs. So she makes a move on him. She walks up and kisses him. She puts herself out there, completely vulnerable should Shinji reject her. He doesn't immediately deny her, but he just stands there and takes it. He doesn't even put his arms around her, which is what she wanted.
Well, how many times does she have to get treated as worthless before she starts scaring people away to keep from getting hurt? She tried up until she snapped and told Shinji to stay away from her because all he does is hurt her.
She had it in her head that just maybe if she was the best pilot, she would get the sort of attention Shinji received, but that never comes to pass.
And they quarantined her. Did they quarantine Shinji after one of the fifty times he merged with his Eva or whatever the fuck?
No, fuck you Asuka, go sit behind your yellow tape.
This is more to do with how Misato is flawed as a person, as opposed to Shinji being a player - like at all. She uses men. In EoE, she starts to seduce him when it becomes clear that being stern and yelling at him won't do the trick. Same deal with Hyuga, the guy with the glasses and shorter hair who is always manning the consoles. Misato is very aware that he is crushing hard on her, and she uses this to get him to do all kinds of shady shit to figure out what is going on.
>there are less taboos around pedophilia in Evangelion universe because of the drastically reduced population
My sides were already in orbit but they flew beyond Pluto at this point.
You're right, but I think that bit is mostly misato's fault - she definitely treats shinji better. Probably because a) shinji isn't after her lover and b) the two have a lot more in common. Or as >>148193256 points out she might be using him, maybe wants to be nice to her boss's son and keep him in the robot enough to keep everyone alive.
To add to this >>148193256, the very first we see of Misato is the picture Shinji is holding in the first episode. She has basically sent a revealing picture of herself to the 14-year old son of her boss. It says a lot about her personality, right from the word go.
I thought NGE and PMMM only existed so that people would get some shadenfreude at the characters' suffering.
I just rewatched this shit for the first time since I first saw it some 8 years ago. I know we all like to joke about how DEEP it is, but I now seriously believe that it is one of the greatest pieces of anime ever.
Shit, that was pretty long what I meant to say was
>Asuka a best Rei is a toilet
She's conscious she does this, she even apologizes for it before Sahaquiel and after Bardiel, it would be completely justified in the circumstances, and she wasn't at all. She's so earnest about Shinji and not knowing what to do for him or why she wants to that she slaps her oldest friend to the ground and condemns all of NERV when she thinks he's dead.
I don't get how people can hate Asuka. Yes, she's abrasive, bitchy, quick to anger, frustrating, etc.
That's the point though. You're meant to empathize with her. Do people actually blame her for the way she acts after all she's been through? Would you dump someone that's clearly crying out for help, just because you find them annoying at that moment? And after the shit she went through near the end of the series / in EoE, hasn't she suffered enough? Give her a break already.
She's just a vulnerable, disturbed young girl that needs a hug. If that means getting scratched, so be it.
Rei is literally not a human like the other characters in the show. Her blue hair, pale skin and red eyes isn't just because it's an anime. It is meant to portray that she is quite alien compared to regular humans.
Asuka is the embodiment of another way of dealing with the hedgehog's dilemma. Shinji deals with it by being passive, withdrawn and not reaching out to people at all. He closes himself off. Asuka achieves the same effect through her bitchy attitude and behaviour.
He did long before that. 25 - 26 are the results of the studio basically running out of money. It is clear that EoE is what was always envisioned as the "true ending". One of the episodes before 25 and 26 have storyboards from EoE as their preview.
>One of the episodes before 25 and 26 have storyboards from EoE as their preview.
But is that the DC or is that the real next ep preview that was aired? I know the DC of 24 has EoE storyboards as the NEP
yeah but I didn't really liked the character. He's like a deus ex machina for Shinji. He appears really late in the serie and suddently Shinji has all his problem solved. Killing him was the only possible choice ; he was too perfect for Shinji.
Kind of a story breaker if you ask me
The direction for 24 is too fast and direct. Kaworu needed to be introed earlier to give more time for the relationship to seem natural. As it is it's like a clipshow of a couple weeks or something which feels way too sudden. The DCs for 21-24 really should've been say 40min eps rather than just a few added scenes.
>Everyone else wants something from him that causes him pain.
What does Rei want from him ?
completly agree Kaworu comes and disappears way too quickly. But a 4th love interest for Shinji would have been too much to handle I guess. Anyway it's a shame that a character so important for shinji's character developpement has been rushed out
I truly think that kaworu work on Shinji could have been done by either Rei or Asuka. Hell Kaworu doesn't have his own Eva, he take Asuka's. That means he doesn't really belong to the serie. It works because he's an angel after all.
But the problem is that to overcome his problem, Shinji needed to choose one of the girl thus ending the ever long waifu debate. He didn't really choose because actually he's incapable to do so. But that doesn't mean Rei or Asuka couldn't overcome their own problem to be with Shinji. I think that NGE has a flawed rushed out ending. The serie just stopped developping because focusing on Shinji makes the story enventually runs out. He's just too pasive. But it doesn't mean the other character can't act on their own.
This. It's a smaller, faster repetition of the pattern Shinji followed all series, making him aware of the decision he's had the whole time and destroying his faith in himself to make it. Even Karl, introduced earlier and given more personality of his own than just what Shinji imagined for him, is more about Shinji failing to close himself off and unlearn the openness he developed in Tokyo-3 after losing everything he'd gained since arriving.
>But that doesn't mean Rei or Asuka couldn't overcome their own problem to be with Shinji.
But Rei did overcome every barrier separating herself from Ikari-kun.
There isn't enough happy Asukas in this world.
Being a pilot can only do so much for autism, i know that better than anyone.
Also for the particular case of Asuka, it's also true that woman who are pilots themselves don't really feel attracted to another pilot as much as your avg girl.
Do you think Eva is beautiful?
>why does he show more interest in an albino fuccboi than me?
>Kaji doesn't bang her after she offers herself to him completely, and remember, there are less taboos around pedophilia in Evangelion universe because of the drastically reduced population.
Also he is Japanese, and if IIRC he is only in his late 20s. He is probably secretly gay, that's the only possible explanation anyone would reject that red hair goddess. That's also probably the reason things did not work with Misato, she is probably no fujo and the idea of the man he loves wanting the dick was revolting for her.
In fact in rebuild he asks Shinji on a date and tries to kiss him but not gay cuz it was all a "joke" *wink wink*.
To think he used to be my fave eva male character back when i was a teen.
But anon,They hate each other
Just look at the hatred in their eyes
Iku-chan and Anno
>Who waits for Asuka in the hospital?
And in Rebuild Asuka isn't human either, they were made for each other.
He's obviously jealous of Asuka because he's the one that wants to be dicked by Kaworu
Asuka/Toujii is the superior crack ship considering it was in a deleted scene from EoE.
It was a live-action segment focused around Asuka in a world without Eva/Shinji where she works as an office lady and is in an a casual fuckbuddy relationship with Touji.
The problem is, she's an autistic cunty mega bitch.
She doesn't get affection because no one fucking likes her.
She has no fucking idea how to earn it or even accept it.
Basically every goddamned thing negative in the series that happens to her after she gets to nerv is her fault.
She wanted to be with him but at the same time she wanted to maintain full control over her emotions.
The tickling of the breath on top of the scenario was too much for her. The butterflies were trying to take over.
I keep thinking the versions of them in Ikari Shinji Raising Project are the real versions of them. Is this okay or am I wrong? They just seem so much happier and the anime was pretty sad
And how was this allowed? It's only that big in this image
I still don't understand. Does he kill her in the end for her to be reborn again or what?
i didn't come here for this feeling anon
There they go again, always trying to be better than Asuka, acting superior, and putting her down. Cruel, just like Rei herself.
is this how people in japan go hiking -- or did they just want to impress shinji? those two look way too cute for their own good, let alone for going hiking
combination of apron and rei just drives me crazy for some reason. asuka is cool, too
Being an Asukafag is suffering
Its all subjective anon
I love Asuka and Rei equally, but for different reasons
That being said,
Misato is best girl
In an actual scene in EoE Asuka has sex with Shinji.
>treats Shinji like absolute shit even when he subconsciously saved her life during the opening rescue scene and has absolutely no idea what has gone on in the last 14 years
>Immediately attempts to murder him instead of using logic and trying to talk him out of using the spears, then gets mad when he fights back
>gets mad when he doesn't try to find her after the battle and then kicks him to the ground when he's already catatonic with shock
For someone who's mentally supposed to be 28, she sure as fuck did emotionally regress to way worse than she ever was in 2.0.
Fun fact: The bug text along the top and side is the famous quote, "I think I may have been born to meet you". And the word "meet" is spelled with a kanji implying a romantic meeting or rendezvous.
You do realize that お and を are literally pronounced identically in modern Japanese, right? Spelling it with a w is a bit like transliterating 'knight' to Cyrillic as книхт rather than найт.
>actual romance depicted in series
>calls it shipping
>All she wanted was a friend and she poured her little heart out to get it, but no one would pay her any heed.
This. She is a bit at fault too, making it hard for others to understand why she does act bitchy at times.
She's also scared of Shinji becoming a better pilot than her. Her entire life, she's defined herself by working hard and becoming an incredible pilot. It's her thing, that nobody can even come touch her. She was always the star of the show until Shinji showed up.
Then along comes some wimpy kid, who with no prior training is able to threaten her position. All the programs at NERV are centred around Shinji and Unit 01, with her running backup.
Shinji's timidness is of course because he's scared of interacting with people, but to her it comes off as superiority.
He takes everything from her and wont even look her in the face.
Ironic since Asuka was originally a Asuka/Hikari combo
Step aside, worst Asuka coming through
The premise is that he imagines a world where he doesn't exist (and neither does Eva; it's just, well, normal). It shows him the contradictory messages that a) everybody gets along without him, and b) that nobody seems really happy without him.
All that ever made it in was the one shot of the 3 girls' VAs standing in the street.
In Instrumentality? They're both really messed up, argue, and he loses control.
In One More Final? He's really, really messed up from everything that he just went through, and can't tell if that's really her or just some kind of hallucination or fragment of Instrumentality. So, he strangles "it" to either make "it" go away, or make "her" lash out and hurt him like she always does, if she's real.
Instead, she does something he never would have expected, and shows compassion and understanding (admittedly, she's pretty wrung out and exhausted from all that's happened, too). It breaks him. That's about all we get to see.
The kitchen scene is really the first time the two of them are honest we each other. Shinji screams at Asuka about all his anger from not being able to connect with her, and she turns him down because of her pride. Which is the trigger for Shinji to say "fuck it" and flip the switch on tanging everyone into a orgasm puddle.
>either make "it" go away, or make "her" lash out and hurt him like she always does.
I interpreted it to something like (in Shinji's head)
(If she does nothing, like how she did in instrumentality, then that's a bad sign)
(If she does anything else, then that's a good sign)
Both Asuka and Shinji have self hate issues... Actually I think everyone in eva does.
Asuka is the worst character. She has a heart of laziness and thinks everything will be handed to her
She asks Rei to be besties for the mission, but Rei refuses because she already senses Asuka's awful personality
Misato invites Shinji because he started off as an introvert with no friends and it was to help him get out of that mood, something Asuka is the opposite of. Asuka kept going she can do everything so why should Misato even care about her, she fucking imprinted into everyone she can handle everything
Kaji likes cougars and isn't a pedophile
Shinji doesn't hold Asuka because she's the kind of woman who will spread (false) rumors around that, for example, Shinji is some perverted rapist or something.
And through all this, she's still a bitch, even if she acts like how a human has to or not.
No one will pay her a heed because she's a bitch who doesn't know how to interact with people
She's like Shinji at the start but instead of being too shy she's the exact opposite of too annoying
It wasn't that big a deal. She doesn't have a problem working with him right after he beats her numbers, it bothered her less than not having anybody to bitch about it with. Asuka doesn't try to show him up in that episode, Shinji tries to show off.
The killer was the string of fights where she was outright irrelevant as a pilot.
theory is that in post apocalyptic japan the population rate had gone to such low levels that almost half of the population was already mixed with other people from the world. Asuka probably had a japanese grandparent from his fathers side.
the kitchen scene happens in shinji's mind you dummie.
It's how he pictures asuka, not the real one.
last episodes explained that pretty well with the "I am the asuka that lives in shinjis mind" or I am the shinji that lives in asukas mind and such.
At the end how shinji thought and percieved asuka was wrong all along.
>piloted Eva in real combat with zero training
>highest angel kill count
>father is high ranking military officer
>is a culinary master
>trained in classical music
>lives with a hot babe
>highest sync ratio ever achieved
Shinji is alpha
Actually its just 12 hours later, debate over.
in the show it was a fake asuka sometimes because it only showed her doing stuff shinji had already seen.
In the movie, it's new stuff.
So, what Shinji experienced during instrumentality, would that be the equivalent of a psychotic episode?
Instrumentality hadnt began there, and it goes with what was said during the last episodes of the tv show.
It cant be the real Asuka because we already know how the real one would act. The one in shinji's mind was an angry hate machine.
>but that is how he percieved Asuka.
It seems that the Asuka in that scene has motives all of her own; that Shinji is unaware of.
Motives that the real Asuka wants.
Fucking traumas and issues like this always weird me out.
I understand how a teenager could be fucked up after being given the ultimate proof that yes, that parent you hate does love you, while simultaneously losing them. But once she's older it should just snap into place like
>Huh, yep, guess my dad was a good guy and did what any loving father would do there and most teenagers are dumb shits about their parents so it's not like I should feel guilty
>THANKS DAD, MISS YOU, MOVING ON WITH MY LIFE NOW
Thank fuck I'm well adjusted.
>Thank fuck I'm well adjusted.
You forgot to mention the hellscape that occurs after the impact.
India and Pakistan had a Nuclear exchange, India's population essentially wiped out. Half of the World's Population Dying, All the Coastal cities under water.
South America, Australia, Southern Africa Dead just after the impact.
Not to mentioned Surviving nearly being Sliced in half as a child.
Seeing the World die, Mass Starvation, Genocide, climate change. (some friends probably died as well)
>But once she's older it should just snap into place
Easy for you to say.
>that scene were Asuka realizes the power of the AT fields and comes to terms with her mother
dunno why, but that one gets me every time.
You can know that rationally, like Misato, empathize with them as adults hiding from something that also scares you instead of as saints or scumbags, like Misato, and still have it, like Misato. Ain't it a trick?
The same episode that Kaji dies, With Futuski's backstory/History of nerv.
Lmao, look what happens when you actually talk to each other instead of calling each other toilets and dolls for twenty years.
For a bunch of people who seem to like Evangelion, you really didn't learn a whole heck of a lot from the show. It was all about the downsides of closing yourself off and not considering others.
Asukahaters on suicide watch!
Reifags are TIRED and DONE!!
>implying the nail and cross would get this rusty if it was 12 hours
She is pissed that he beat her numbers. She is putting up a facade in front of Rei. She punches the wall when Rei leaves as a combination of her frustration at Shinji being better than her, and the fact that Rei doesn't give a shit about anything, least of all Asuka's insecurity.
>implying shinji didn't nail it there
>implying he didn't do this in the time between him emerging from the LCL and one more final: I need you
>implying that the rust doesn't point to the scene being placed years apart
To lie perfectly still and silent for hours on end, sure. They're not just getting out, they're waiting.
>the "wtf I hate/love X now" posts are serious!!1!1!!
>Who waits for Asuka in the hospital?
Oh man I never looked at it like this.
It's so sad.
So the original plan was for the choking to turn into a sexual embrace? Wait, the reason Asuka was upset after the kissing incident because he didn't embrace her. So was the entire point of the ending was that even though he's choking her, it was still the real human contact they desperately desired? That even painful human interaction is still better than the isolation they were trapped in, and that having gotten past that they could actual connect with each other. My mind is fucking blown.
Misato is the best girl.I dont care what you faggots say but she is literally the best..wish she had dated Shinji instead of fucking Kaji..
It has the greatest re-watch value of any Anime, You can find something new,
Anno must get a kick from the notion that people choose the fantasy world that Shinji rejected over the original(realistic/better) story.
Well the two images are
A) Shinji and Asuka
B) Misato and Kaji
the scenes were one right after the other.
I think this is images from Groundwork's of Eva that were used in that Concurrency fan-project?
>this thread is still up
Can we just glass shippers? Why are they even on /a/? Fuck I hate the Evangelion fandom.
I also think he did it on impulse, thinking that he was stil in instrumentality and seeked to destroy that which made him weak.
But it turned out to be Asuka which broke that despair and shinji finally gave up on what he had searched throught the movie. Asuka's tenderness or help.
>The problem is, she's an autistic cunty mega bitch.
This. I think Asuka is caught in a vicious cycle. She doesn't get affection because she's an insufferable cunt, and she's an insufferable cunt because she doesn't get affection. Her mother is to blame for her situation.
I don't get how people can like Asuka. How exactly does she have fanboys? Asuka is not tsundere. There is no dere in her tsun. She generally doesn't like Shinji and Rei so she treats them like crap. You have to be a sadist to like someone with Asuka's personality. Imagine someone in real life being that rude and obnoxious. I can understand if you like Asuka because you think she's more attractive than Rei, but how exactly does one like a bitch? I used to like her back when I thought she was a tsundere, but then I finally realized that she's just an insufferable cunt-basket. What do you like about Asuka, aside from her looks?
>watching shipshit with a thumbnail like that
>watching youtube "explanations"
What were you hoping to accomplish?
>I don't know what google images is. I think everyone is a caveman like me who still has gigabytes worth of hoarded images on my PC. I don't understand that Macbook users rely on the cloud for their images.
>I will respond to this post insulting him because he uses an overpriced Mac with virtually no harddrive space. I am so predictable.
Will they end up happy on this desolated earth ?
It just makes me depressed
I've decided it's just okay. I don't need to read troublesome mangas about asuka.
The whole reason anyone cares about fanfiction for evangelion like Shinji Ikari Raising Project is because the original was way too dark and they just want to see them happy.
Girlhood rehashes the exact same problems Asuka had with Kaji, and just adds some cute Shinji dating scenes.
In conclusion, it might be better than Angelic days, but barely?
Briefly, in between thousand-yard indifference and irritation. Some days one might fall asleep angry and wake up alone. They could spend weeks apart, pacing the shore or combing the ruins, wherever the other isn't, until they miss the contact enough they'd accept anything. They'll wake up with the other still sleeping beside them. Until more people come out of the sea and they both go off with OCs.
I say girlhood respects the characters more so than SIRP does. It's somewhat entertaining to see what could happen if Asuka and Shinji had an ice-breaker moment; allowing them to start a relationship of sorts. (it's an entertaining notion but that's about it...)
It doesn't go anywhere near to what NGE did, but it's a good attempt.
SIRP is about as far from NGE as an Evangelion iteration can get.(excluding that chibi show) with how it handled the characters.
NGE is an entirely different beast compared to other shows. Quite frankly; props to Anno; with how he respected Asuka's and Shinji's characters and have them not outright have a romantic relationship after they shared a kiss (after Shinji returned from a visit to his mother's grave).
It shows the level of restraint/direction that Anno chose compared to what a different director would do.
The start of SIRP was depicted in episode 26 of Evangelion. It was literally a direct spin-off, and one of the closest canon mangas.
It is based on that premise, but it is not vital to Eva's story, by that logic I can say that the Girlfriend of steel games are Closest Canon because it has the first depiction of Mana; a popular character that was used later in SIRP.
Nope your logic is flawed and mine is perfect. You're working backwards from the hypothesis and molding the evidence to fit your theory, rather than the theory to fit your evidence.
If you are saying that SIRP is unlike NGE, then you may as well say 26 isn't canon.
>If you are saying that SIRP is unlike NGE, then you may as well say 26 isn't canon.
Can you read?
>It is based on that premise, but it is not vital to Eva's story
An Extracanonical Character Popular enough to appear in SIRP.
Pen Pen's not vital to the story either. What a silly thing to say.
So your saying SIRP is Vital to understanding NGE?
>Pen Pen's not vital to the story either. What a silly thing to say.
> You're working backwards from the hypothesis and molding the evidence to fit your theory
Oh, and don't use my arguments against me, that's cheating. My arguments are insanely well-crafted, so it might be tempting to just reflect them on to me, but if I'm just going to argue with myself, I can do that on my own.
And I always win
> Of course SIRP isn't vital to understanding NGE
SIRP is about as far from NGE as an Evangelion iteration can get with how it handled the characters.
thats all I said
>don't use my arguments against me, that's cheating
untrue. since, the characters are literally copied and pasted from Neon Genesis Evangelion episode 26. Bumbling Father, Childhood friend Asuka, etc.
I thought you want to talk about
nyoriko | yamada nyoriko works.
